The reason for this research study is to use Savickas' Theory of Job Engineering to a volunteer consumer Karen. Complete a narrative interview using the set up interview questions in the Job Style Interview, and employing the six steps. Discuss interpretations, observations and obtain her feedback.

Theoretical groundwork of Career Development Theory

The theoretical basis of Career Development theory (CCT) has its beginnings from Constructivism, and matching to Sharf (2009) Constructivism is a subconscious approach that is rolling out out of any postmodern philosophical position. It has been explained the Postmodernism period was a "reaction to modernism", in that it highlighted the variations in individual views rather than one-sided, rational clinical view of modernism. (Sharf 2009) Constructivist saw individuals as makers of their own destiny, and constructivist counselors looked for to help clients discover that meaning and deal with any discrepancy. (Sharf 2009)

According to (Sharf 2009, p316) the constructivism approach was greatly damaged by the changing of the work environments in the 1970's. Employees were no longer sticking to one position for their complete work life, as companies were becoming "less loyal" to employees and enjoying out for own bottom-line by "downsizing" their workforce to "part-time". Employees soon uncovered they had a need to take charge of these future and looked to career advisors for help. According to (Busacca, 2007) constructivist job counseling attempts to answer one question "how do a person negotiate an eternity job changes rather than lose a feeling of self applied?"

Career structure theory (CCT) came into being to help individuals develop so this means out of these career alternatives and activities. CCT addresses how an individual's "profession", is manufactured out of its personal and sociable constructs or interactions. These constructs are not actual real fact, but an individual's representation of that actuality. CCT defines job as a target and subjective build. Objectively speaking, job is a listing of positions from the past to provide. Subjectively, profession is the non-public so this means or a routine of experiences from recent, present and future. (Savickas, 2005, p43)

CCT is constructed of three specific perspectives and each looks for to regulate how the individual views their life and profession, and exactly how they interact. (Busacca, 2007) These perspectives are life theme, profession adaptability, and vocational personality.

The Goal and the Suppositions

The purpose of CCT is to help the individual discover the subjective interpretation in their work. In assisting the average person discover this kind of interpretation, CCT stress the importance of the relationship between the person and the counselor.

Life themes

In Holland's job development theory, his inventories were used to acquire critical information about the individual, and make predictions in regards to a career path, and also the likely hood of success along this avenue. Career construction theory takes good thing about the individual's narrated work experiences to discover any meanings or habits. (Busacca, 2007) It has been explained that "pattern is the primary device of meaning". "By consciously managing and binding jointly these discrete encounters, a unifying life theme patterns" (Savickas 2005, p 58) "patterns becomes a fundamental and essential way to be because it offers a method for individuals to see themselves to see what's important on earth. " (Savickas, 2005 p58)

During a counseling session the individual is encouraged to share about their work positions, encounters. Also, they are asked to build up a story linking job related experience from days gone by to the present. The storyline becomes the concentrate of attention as specific narrates the counselor through their work and life reports. The counselor plays a less energetic role and listens for habits in the individual's tale. (Busacca, 2007)

Career Adaptability

Once an individual has found out a life theme, how they go about coping with the process of linking with social objectives and "how" they build their occupations is the next phase. (Savickas, 2005) Profession counselors start to ask questions of the average person such as "How have you decide on that job?' That is an important question to ask, because it relates to the way the specific is choosing to deal or react to their social anticipations. (Savickas 2005) stated adaptation was the conversation of "self" and "society" and it is this connection where a person develops their attitudes, values, problem-solving and coping mechanisms. He went on to go over four phases of version resources. These resources are concern, control, curiosity and self-confidence. (Savickas, 2005)

During the job concern stage, a profession counselor targets whether a person is concern about their future. A assertion commonly made by individuals in this level would be "Do I have another. " Too little career concern has a odds of becoming indifference which usually reflects a sense of pessimism about the near future. Career concern is important because it helps the given individual to associate their current activities to future efforts. The purpose of this stage is the building of continuity of recent and future profession activities. (Savickas, 2005) (Busacca, 2007)

The career control stage, a career counselor targets whether the specific feels or thinks they are in charge of their professions. A assertion commonly created by individuals in this level would be "Who owns my future?" The lack of career control has a likelihood of becoming job indecisiveness and can result in behaviour of indecision. The goal of this stage is deciding by clarifying options. (Savickas, 2005) (Busacca, 2007)

The career attention stage, a career counselor targets whether the specific has discovered fit between do it yourself and the world of work. A assertion commonly made by individuals in this stage would be "What do I wish to do with my future?" Having less career curiosity has the odds of becoming nave about work options. The goal of this level is exploration, studying self and clarifying values. (Savickas, 2005) (Busacca, 2007)

The career self confidence stage, a career counselor would focuses on whether the individual displayed self esteem, self effectiveness and encouragement. A declaration commonly created by a person in this level would be "MAY I do it?" Too little career assurance has a probability of becoming unmotivated and unwilling to acquire their goals. The purpose of this level is to increase home acceptance, develop problem handling abilities and encourage the determination to try even when things look dark. (Busacca, 2007) (Savickas, 2005)

Vocational Personality

According to (Savickas, 2005) an individual's personality begins in the family, neighborhoods, and university. As that individual grows up, their characteristics are displayed each day while doing housework, completing interests and playing games. CCT views these characteristics possibilities or "hypothesis" to explore for the discovering interpretation. Unlike Holland's RAISEC which use an objective person-environment fit, CCT runs on the subjective strategy in demonstrating to the individual how they are similar to others in a given field, and share common feelings and ideas about work related activities.
