Continuous Professional Development Project

The reason for written this newspaper on continuous professional development was according to the requirement of the Professional Development Project component. In addition to that it was a thirst to learn how to improve and broaden my knowledge and skills to be able to build up a respectful quality personality in my own personal and professional lives.

This statement will show and specify the conscious updating of my professional knowledge and personal characterises.

Limitation of the Report

The following are some of the limitation faced while doing my Constant professional Development task.

The fact some of my friends, family members and workmate will work on rotational bases, so that it took me a lot of time to arranging face-to-face interview.

Some of the Questionnaire feedback were received past due.

Emotional embedded feedback from others.



The samples symbolized in this research were gathered during the period between Apr and Sept, 2007. Questionnaires, Interviews, sessions, E-MAIL and Text were used to get the required information from an assortment of Family members, relatives, friends, classmates, and workmate. Fifty completed questionnaires were returned out of fifty, 10 Text message were received, forty face-to-face interviews, ten cellphone interviews were conducted in addition to 7 home visits.


An interview is an intentional connections between persons in which one person looks for information from another person. Interviews may take place face-to-face or by other settings of personal conversation (York, 1998). As stated previously forty face-to-face interviews and ten telephone interviews were conducted. Usually whenever i needed to obtain information from managers, supervisor and people whom I do not know perfectly I used to do Face-to-face interviews. As well as there sometimes could be non-common question, that you can not ask everyone. The fact that I'd be on the opposite rotation (field staff) with others acquaintances I used to call them and carry on the interview via the phone. I did so interviews, because some of my friends, family members and family do not speak or read British.


English and Arabic questionnaire were used due to the reasons presented earlier. Close-ended questions were used as this provided co-operation and more likely to get reactions rather then the open-ended constructions. Even though answer selections were made available, respondent had the option of offering their own replies by the end of the questionnaire as there were a few of the open-ended questions.


Well you my ponder how performed I used this technique to gather the required information. About Myself

Due to the crises happened in Oman, prior Sultan Qaboos bin Said crowned as a Sultan of Sultanate of Oman, many Omani vacations about the world (India, Pakistan, Iran and East-Africa) for the sake of living a good life and business as well. My dad and my grand daddy (mother aspect) were one of individuals, who moved to Tanzania and acquired hitched there. There I was created; I am Saud Ali Saleh Al-Omairi, blessed in 28th August, 1978 in East Africa- Tanzania in a tiny community called 'Sikonge' - one of the six districts of the Tabora Region".

My mother says that, I got called "Nasser", but regrettably everyday I used to be a non-stop crying machine, so they considered changing my name to "Saud" scheduled compared to that! Well it's their misconception, and I can't argue with this, because indeed I ended crying. Another story that I possibly could remember been informed is that, as i was born I had been so fats, that there is a competition, where I acquired the second fattest babe honor.

I get two sisters and I acquired four brothers, where I am the youngest of most. The fact of being the youngest of all, I been called "Mother spoiled young man" where everything I wanted it I could get it. We stayed in Tanzania till I had been five years of age, when my dad decided, that it's enough time to get back to Muscat in the year of 1983.

Well we leaved in Athaibah-Muscat, in a rental wooden house for two years, and then we migrated to Maabelah-Muscat in 1985. Among the things I could remember, that is there used to be only 1 institution, where my sister used to review each day and I used to go to university in the evening. Well that was limited to a year or two, and the federal government built another institution just not far from our house. Considering the school was not far from, at chance time I used to leap the school wall surfaces and reunite home for an easy meal and get back to school again. A very important factor made me stop doing that, is the fact one day I used to be wearing light shoes, so on my leap, underneath there was a broken bottle of coca cola or red wine I don't recall, what I do remember is the fact I got at the hospital and my ft. was stitched and a slap.

Prior 1990 my dad slipped in the toilet and felled on his back and got paralysed, and perished in 1990. By that time I used to be eleven years old, just four years later my eldest brother got an accident, just 2km abroad and died due to internal bleeding. So now I get three brothers and two sisters. I graduated from school in 1999 and immediately started out my first job with National Bank of Oman. One year later, in 2000 I acquired married to my classmate; well my eye were spotted on her since the first day she strolled into the classroom.

For enough time being I get one princess, she actually is four years of age and a son who is twelve months and half. Well our first child was a son, but he died on the delivery.


I completed my secondary university class in 1996, but my level had not been sufficient enough for my to go in university, therefore i entered Muscat Techie Industrial University (High Technical University (Now)) in IT major, where I satisfied my lovely wife. When I joined the college my first ambition was to graduate with high quality and become a member of the university or college as the first ten in every school over Oman (5 colleges) were given opportunities to complete their analysis at the university or college. Well I did so what I was involved with it I graduated with variation and got the second place. Seeking to the actual fact where my children needed help I stopped dreaming about college or university and joined the work pressure in 1999. Well the opportunity came back again to join the University as a component time research, so in 1999 I joined the college or university and graduated in 2000. Now am doing my MBA program at university of Bedfordshire.


Talking about my professional career, I have signed up with several companies during my professional job. First within my study at the college or university I proved helpful at a Shell petrol Stop as a petrol train station man and another year I proved helpful at Burger Ruler, where my responsibilities were planning sandwiched, cleaning and customer services. AS I graduated I signed up with the National Loan company of Oman in 1999 as a programmer.

Two years later I joined Schlumberger Oilfield Company, where I struggle myself and occupations as being an IT graduate to work in a totally different self-discipline and became an oilfield specialist. Well the plan didn't go well, I had formed an argument with our manager due to our contract agreement, and so two years later I resigned and stayed jobless for three month. After that as in your free time job I worked well for a Forex Trade Market, where we used to trade on currency in the international market, another occupations change for me.

Well two month later I joined up with a general population sector (general population authority for Social Confidence) as some type of computer Technician. Things did not go well too as my strategy was an exclusive sector relation, where in Oman it is completely different in public sector it is all about who is in control and commend. I did so not like the situation over there, therefore i acquired another opportunity at Gulf business Machine (IBM Distributor-Gulf region). Now am working at Occidental Coal and oil (Oman) Ltd. is wholly-owned subsidiaries of Occidental Petroleum Organization an international oil and gas exploration and production company located in the United States and headquartered in Los Angeles, California.

Prior commencing analysing my characteristic, behaviour, prior and current career position and planning my profession development, first I thought to underline a few of the facts & most significant event occurred in my own life for me, that improved my career and life.

Analyse of Critical Event and Personality

A continuous professional development log contains a list of issues in my viewpoint that relates to my progression in development. This log later can be used to make a development agenda. Therefore to be able to set-up my CPD log I followed steps as recommended by Megginson and Whitaker, 2007, that i founded convenient for me personally to analyse a few of the reality, my characterises, personality, professions and my own life.


There is obviously constraint in everyone's career development and life; there may be some rear instances, where the course is widely opened.

Being short in skills was not a wall structure which stood against my development progression, am a self applied confident and I do believe in my skills potential.

100% of the responses suggested that am an arguer in the majority of the discussions especially non-work related issues. This attitude always drives me toward a protective communication behaviors in almost all of the times.

Priorities first and Preventing procrastination

Our religion encouraged us to do changes inside our home first then others, how you can change someone else unless you change yours first. Going back on my job development I did so delay my university study to become listed on the work make that was due to family needs. Well somehow I managed to carry on my studies while working, because I devoted my self and still toward a concentrate on that is planned.

Succeeding for self

I do not usually look for someone opinion to know if am successful or not, or look what someone has achieved. I really do consider my home successful if I do what is supposed to do frankly and in proper way, as well if I meet my plan plan. My parents didn't draw my avenue so I will be a pilot, doctor or an engineer. They gave me the choice to do what I believe in, I achieve my explanation of success not somebody else's definition.

Well in seeking the view on these, 70% responded that am almost never influenced by others, 20% always, 30% not at all.

Living the presents

In interviews I wanted to know how often I discussed the happy and bad moments in my life. Without been shocked by the answers, 95% replied that I always stated the happy moments and hated discussing on bad ones. 5% replied that I talked about it equally. I really do believe in a very important factor, letting go south moments we can provide full attention to today's. If our time is allocated to regrets and we are centered on the past, we have less attention and energy to explore our future development and also to ask 'what can I do today that will improve my future career?' solutions-focused approaches to development help us to get away from a deficit-oriented method of days gone by and are progressively used in coachng ( Berg and Szabo, 2005) and in change management (Jackson and McKergow, 2002).

Developing An 'Extraordinarily Reasonable Self-Image'

Viewing the existing position where am I now, I can underline some of the issues that are encountered.

It is very rear for me personally to get responses or direction from my superior, unless there is critical situation needed to be resolved. Sometime I would spend the complete weeks within my office desk without a visit by my superior or a call.

Our assessment is usually done ones yearly which is a very short timeframe I spend it with my superior and discuses issues as well as my development plan, which is however just words in paper. Since my last assessment which was on Feb, 2007 till now nothing at all was talked about between me and my superior about my development which was plan in my own analysis sheet in season 2007.

Utilizing my knowledge and skills is another aspect where it is overlooked. I could say in my own current position am only utilizing 50% of my skills and knowledge.

Can these be solved?

Well speaking the fact it's the undeniable fact that am being living it for two years now, and other employees as well. In my opinion almost all of these issues is related to management brand, and changes could be achieved I really do not indicate by changing management, but enhancing the way things are completed is the most convenient way to solve issues.

Fizzing in the stretch out zone

Am at the comfort zone, where I am on daily work usual nothing is exciting. Career metaphor.

The best Metaphor which could describe my job is 'Nomad' or 'Bedouin' or what we call them in Midsection East 'Badu'. Bedouin travel by camel from oasis to oasis, carrying out a traditional way of life. This metaphor signify they way my job was, I have a tendency to frequently change my professional job in one position to another, that in my opinion helped me in getting more skills and experience.

Changing professions always excite me, where I tend to do what I was not doing before. As previously mention in my own life background I had developed some highs and lows in my own profession. I used to be always a programmer a Field specialist, where I used to be in higher position and earn higher then when I was in the public sector.

Although this is the reason behind changing occupations where you have a tendency to try new things, but my rewards are the experience I've gained, which lead me to raised earning. Now Personally i think that am in need of a steady career development in upwards progression.

It is unclear where am I heading toward my development career. There is little or nothing excite me that indicate a progression. Presently in my own position am a Sr. technological engineering associate, where I've reached the maximum allowable grade in this position, therefore my motives would stop over here if I continued my job at the same position. Am hanging out doing what's expected for me to do achieving one process after another.

(Maslow, 1943) came with the idea of 'self-actualisation' - the state of hawaii at the top of his hierarchy of needs where a person is so employed within an activity that they lose all track of time. Now I feel like am dropping my purpose, which lead to work stress.

I don't feel like am getting the right feedback on my development from my superior, it's like a Christmas only happens one per year.

My consequence was 38 and as per analyse of the results show that others see me as practical, cautious, careful & sensible. They see me as smart, gifted, or talented, but moderate. Not a person who makes friends too quickly or easily, but someone who's extremely loyal to friends you are doing make and who expect the same devotion in return. Those who really become familiar with me realize it requires a lot to shake your trust in your friends, but equally that it takes me a long time to get over if that trust is ever broken.

Mostly I really do trust Dr. Phil, this really express my feature and my personality analyse, but some how there is something I don't feel like pertains to me which is the way I do make friends, well in my opinion I feel I get rapidly or easily with people. Heading back to my questionnaire and interviews I did so ask about how exactly do they think about the way a be friends with people. Reactions were 95% responded that am a social man, 3% solitary and 2% uncertain!. 100% responded easily can be friends with me, 0% rarely.

Jung Typology Test.

Leadership is the achievements of an objective through the course of human assistants. The man who successfully collect together his individual team-mate to accomplish particular ends is a leader. A great innovator is person who can do it every single day, and year after year, in a wide variety of circumstances. ( Harvard Business Review, 2004).

Most leaders believe in short terms about own command style. To build up your leadership potential, however, you should be more aware of the way you lead.
