Goals Of Internship Training Objectives Management Essay

Bridge ICD is relatively a tiny organization that procedures and believes in employed in a team. Hence, each personnel has a designation and a job scope which they are in charge of as the company is not jogging under departments. Because of this, I get to endeavor into different area to understand how things are being done in the company and at the same time assist each staff as I really do not have a fix job standards.

I started off aiding my supervisor, Ms Wendy, the Company Office Manager that deals with all office admin. The first few jobs that were distributed by my supervisor were to check my creativeness. I got asked to make a kids camp brochure which will be sent out to Digi Telecommunication staffs (parents). It had been really a major challenge for me as I must turn out with a brochure that is ideal for parents and at exactly the same time the brochure must also have the ability to draw in the kid's focus on possess the interest to wait the camp. Instantly, I started relating it from what I had developed I learned from cognitive mindset course. Attention is the key thing that I have to consider when designing a brochure since when we are considering something, we will saccades and we'll come to a fixation. Hence, I analyse the prospective audience and brain stormed to create design whereby it might be able to pick up your hands on both parents and children's focus on the brochure. I came up with a design where in fact the brochure has a superior and cheerful look. At the same time I played out around with colours as well to help get your hands on their attention because colors play a very big role inside our life, for occasion it can be associated to your emotions, mood, and many more. Subsequently, I also created communication part for Prudential and Maxis teambuilding event to provide their staff a sneak peek that also serve as a reminder for future event and also to attract their employees to wait and get involved for the event. This time round, I applied the same method that I possessed used for the brochure which is to create an artwork that is of interest and creative, at the same time means that the intended meaning is also conveyed. Learning through experience possessed made might work being completed even much easier.

Apart from that, my responsibility in the company also grew bigger whenever i was presented with the opportunity to manage the business profile. I used to be asked to manage the company account for both gentle copies where it will be delivered to the company clients and hard copy for this to be delivered for printing. On top of that, my task also includes making a standardised company proposal template, company PowerPoint Presentation slides, and also company's staff e-mail signature. Consequently, I'd also come up with proposal and PowerPoint demonstration for most companies (Indah Water, Zurich, Multi-Purpose Insurans, Beta Tegap, Pantai Premier Pathology, U-Mobile, Tokio Marine and many more) that complements their training and teambuilding requirement as provided by them. I am also required to do some research on trainer's backdrop to check out suitable instructors which meet the requirement for your client when needed.

Having said that, I realized that a company's image can be an important aspect available world. A company's image is exactly what that sets the company to vary from others which makes it the uniqueness of this company. Hence, something as small as a staff's email personal, could play a very big role to the business's image as well. The reason is being simple, because whatever is representing your enterprise it'll portray the characteristic of the company as a whole and most notably, it'll be creating the first impression to others. At the same time, the business's image is the primary facet that develops the self-assurance in others. Thus, as mention above, something so modest like a personnel email personal can play an important role in building the business's image since communication through email is the key communication tools being used by Bridge and also in the business world. Towards the same level, company proposal, display slide, company account and many more will all get together to help build a company's image. This makes it important to come up with a standardized appearance for Bridge to represent its professionalism and to build self-confidence in their customer, in view to the fact that being a training company is highly competitive available world.

Besides admin work, I used to be also given the opportunity to help out with the logistics field. I commenced helping my colleague Mr. Andrew, Logistic Exec, in the logistic type of work which is where I was first taught on the importance of managing logistic. Controlling logistic is not a fairly easy job since it is where one will be required to liaise with a few party; the trainer, consumer and the location of the function. Communication plays a very big role here. Apart from liaising, logistic also include searching, purchasing and planning the materials for the event. It is necessary for one to be a systematic person and having the ability to connect well to have the ability to complete the duty.

I was presented with the opportunity to help my colleague prepare the materials that are necessary for the event and also to pack them up. While controlling the logistic, it made me understand and learned that I could not necessarily do things within my safe place. My process required me to consider hotels, locations, materials, instruments etc but back then I had not been comfortable making phone calls to unfamiliar person. Hence, I took up the challenge and figure out how to grow from it. The first time when I was necessary to make a phone call, I have to list out things that I need to enquire etc. But after making several phone calls, I could perform the task without difficulties. I put built more self confidence when speaking on mobile phone and also learned how to converse better over the telephone. I make many calls to search for materials, called up providers to consider instruments to be loan for the incidents and consequently, I was also asked to look for suitable venues and hotels for the occurrences and call them up to obtain additional information and quotation as well. Making phone calls seems to be a simple job, but could it be the communication part where sometimes it can be somewhat challenging as there miscommunication may happen.

Apart from that, I got also a facilitator for a couple teambuilding incidents and very soft skill trainings. Through the event, my activity comprises of establishing the venue according to the trainers need, prepares materials for activities, liaise with hotel for mealtime and hall settings, facilitate the individuals and engage with the participants to allow them to feel safe. This events had also build my self-assurance and allows me to portray my command skills.

In addition, after learning the procedure and facilitating in a few happenings, I got then given the possibility to run logistic plus a mature mentoring me for a teambuilding event for just two day one nights at A'farmosa Holiday resort, Melaka for a production company. Within this event, my responsibility was bigger because my job was not to just make sure the program runs smoothly. I used to be accountable for the stay at the holiday resort, allocating the members to their respected rooms and the meals for the participants as well. I had learned a great deal from this event where I've build my self-confidence level and I also increased my communication skills.

Apart from that, I am also given the opportunity to assist in two very soft skill training for MSIG Company. To aid the trainer, I'd need to understand the trainers training course ahead as I'd need to help the trainer to prepare workshop materials, have venue setup in their preferred ways, to get ready for the activities, and to liaise with the client and the hotel. Through both training, it allows me to understand how to be an event organizer and find out what the abilities are that requires me to execute at my best.

2. 1. 4. Organisation Hierarchy and Structure

Bridge as stated above is a small organization. The business runs under seven dedicated personnel and they're David Tan (Program Director & Senior Facilitator), Len Meng Fui (Functions Director), Sharon Chiew (Marketing & Business Director), Vasu Dave (Training & Programme Development Specialist), Neal Patrick (Consumer Engagement Advisor & Trainer), Wendy Chan (Office Supervisor), and Andrew Chiu (Logistic Professional).

While most organizations have stringent guidelines and norms about hierarchy and composition, the atmosphere at Bridge is quite different in the sense that at Bridge, the staff are a family. The reason for that may be because it is a little organization with minimal staff and which allows the staff to interact with each other frequently on a daily basis which results in a detailed knit family. With that said, the relaxed setting up in the office does not at all negatively affect the quality of service of the business. In fact, it increases the efficiency and maximizes the that Bridge has to offer. Every staff has their own role at work and area that they focus on and jointly they keep the gears moving and the business in motion.

David, our program director and mature facilitator has behind him years of research, knowledge and experience in the region of experiential learning. Recover experience, he helped bring everything that he had learned and recognized to the colleges and organizations in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region and it is main people to make this happen. He supervises the programs that are carried out and comes up with methods to ensure that the training program is first class and effectively carried out throughout the span of this program.

Sharon, our director in marketing and business handles clients. Why is Sharon ideal for the job is her charming personality that captures people. Because of her extrovert nature eagerness to go out and meet people, she found the field of intellectual capital development to be rousing and continued to pursue a profession in that. The factor that makes Sharon most reliable is the way she is in a position to talk to clients by tuning in, understanding and coming up with strategies that ensure that the clients' needs are found and are fulfilled.

What Neal is able to bring to the company is that foreign effect that broadens the view and opportunity of the business.

Wendy, our office administrator is in charge of making sure top efficiency at work. Her role is similar to the mother of the office whereby she keeps things going and attends to any area or anyone who is having difficulty. Her focus on detail is why is her ideal for the job. She actually is quick to pick up on areas that are need restructuring to ensure a clean running office. Her critical but yet practical persona provides clients the self confidence in the business and trusts that we won't let them down.

Andrew, much like Wendy is also critical when it comes to his work. Whatever the work, he calls for it on in full stead and sets in effort and brings it to his full potential. As much as he is critical about his work, he's also has another part to him with a simple heading personality that is simple to match up. Because of that, it does increase the effectiveness of the tasks that the folks under him.

As you can see, the company comprises of individuals of different backgrounds, qualities, personalities and certification. This is a major helping factor in developing the company as it introduces diversity and motivates thinking outside of the box. It may be a just a small organization for the present time, however in time I really believe Bridge will confirm itself and soon be able to match with the other bigger companies.

Details of the team that placement is being completed in

I was given to the logistical and administrative department in Bridge for my internship from 27 of August 2012 to 7 of December 2012. The role of the administrative office is where all things that are related to the company administrative will be completed by both administrative and logistical division. The obligations include general administration, researching, liaising with hotels and providers, controlling with correspondence such as e-mail, answers client question, and many more. As for the Logistical Department, the role of this team includes planning, organizing, handling and managing the situations programs, taking care of the storage space of the all materials for the business, complies with up with trainer, consumer and hotel person in control and many more. Her role is similar to the mom of any office whereby she maintains things going and attends to any area or anyone that is having difficulty. Her focus on detail is what makes her simply perfect for the job. She is quick to get on areas that are need restructuring to ensure a clean working office. Her critical but yet practical persona offers clients the self confidence in the business and trusts that people won't let them down.

CHAPTER 3

3. 1 Learning Outcome

During my internship, I needed found that trainings and teambuilding programs are extremely important facet to numerous organizations. I never understood how important training and teambuilding were to organizations until I was subjected to corporate teambuilding occasions and also soft skills trainings. Throughout my internship with Bridge, one of the training that we was involved with is an objective setting training for an insurance company. I discovered powerful goal setting is the main element component to encourage their employees to have the ability to accomplish their purpose since insurance real estate agents usually have a target that they have to achieve.

Goal setting may be a very powerful method to help stimulate people and also to motivate one self. Thus, it is vital to apply goal setting techniques theory in organizations to help raise the motivation of their workers. Furthermore, it also provides as the pathway for the success of the organization since goals will create a task and it'll help to measure the success of computer as well.

The question here is that, are they arranging their goals using the best and effective method. It's important to really have the five concepts of goal setting; clarity, challenge, determination, feedback, and activity complexity to become motivated to create a highly effective goal that will improve one's performance. Every rule plays an extremely vital role and they are the main element components in goal setting techniques. The first process will be quality in which a goal that you place must be clear whereby they may be measurable and significant. It is only when a goal is set to be clear and specific that consist of a time-frame for conclusion will be effective. For instance, for insurance realtors, it is important to allow them to established clear goals like "I am going to have to attain RM 50, 000 worth of sales by the 30th of December 2012" in order to really have the motivational value in it. Also, you can also figure out how to use the SMART goal setting (Specific, Measurable, and Time destined) to help make certain the clarity of the goals that they had set ("Locke's GOAL SETTING TECHNIQUES Theory", 2010).

As for the second principle, Challenge, it might be as said a challenging process for a person because setting the level of obstacle is the central characteristic of goals. It really is habitually for folks to be motivated by their achievement, therefore they will be judging on the significance of the accomplishment that they await. It is a natural motivation for one to do a good job when you really know what you need to do will be well received by the end of your day. Apart from that, if you know that you will be rewarded, it'll usually help boost the enthusiasm of an individual and will also build the need to complete it. While using the help of SMART goals, arranging another goal will connect the employee towards rewards that will be honored when the challenging goal been achieved. Thus, relating it back again to the insurance agencies, they might have known the reward that awaits them when they achieve certain aim for and they are the one who'll set their problem to attain their desirable goal ("Locke's Goal Setting Theory", 2010).

The third concept will be determination whereby it is best if the employees themselves placed their own goals and they agreed after to it in order for it to be effective. However, this does not imply that goals needed to be always be negotiate with and decided by the employees but instead the target that is being set must be consistent with the business goal and the goal must be coming from a creditable person by which the employee have confidence in. Doing so will also then build the worker commitment towards the goal. Nonetheless, always try make an effort to receive the employees involves in their own goal setting techniques (Ghebre, 2009). In addition, goal dedication and the level of goal difficulty most of enough time works jointly. When the goal is set at a far more difficult level, this implies more determination is requisite. This shows that if one places the target at a very easy level to accomplish, hence there is no need to involve a lot of drive to get it done. This will cause the worker not work at the goals or even not put in effort to get it done since they know it is easily possible. So in an insurance provider, if the goals are being place at an super easy level, this won't motivated the brokers to perform. Also, the insurance agents themselves must be able to see the relevance of the goal that has been set and be involved with it to allow them to be committed to their goals ("Locke's GOAL SETTING TECHNIQUES Theory", 2010).

Consequently, the fourth process, Feedback will need to play its role as well to ensure the effectiveness of the goal. The need for feedback in goal setting is to supply the chance to allow one clarify their expectations, make changes to the goals level of difficulty as well as to get recognition. Doing this allows individuals to really have the opportunity to regulate how well they are really coming combined with the goals being established. Most of all, it allows an individual to have the chance to breakdown their goals if indeed they realized that it may take them a long term to attain it. This principle would be very helpful for insurance coach as they'll be the one monitoring their mentee's performance and guiding them towards their goal. Additionally, using the SMART goal second step, Measurable, where the goal being place must be measurable as it will provide us with a specific feedback. For instance, include a quantity and time frame in the goals we establish because it provides us with a dimension of how next to or far our company is from our goal ("Locke's Goal Setting Theory", 2010).

The last basic principle of goal setting techniques theory will be process complexity. This rule will apply when the goals being place are extremely complex because it is crucial to be sure that your employees aren't being stressed by the task load. Employees will come to a point where these are over working themselves that may then by chance cause them to be demoralized and discouraged. To avoid this from going on, employees should be guaranteed to have sufficient amount of time to attain the goals. Furthermore, if the worker has yet to master certain skills that is required to attain the goals, ensure that training or guidance receive to them for them have the mandatory knowledge to execute their task. For instance, the insurance provider is providing training because of their employees to ensure that their workers have the required skills to execute and achieve their goals. The main purpose of goal setting techniques is to achieve success. Thus, it is important to make certain that each condition has been look into to attain the goals ("Locke's Goal Setting Theory", 2010).

Goal setting up is the road to success for every individual. No doubt, SMART goal also takes on an important role in business world as goals really helps to portray success. Having goals, it actually pushes someone to take the time and think about achieving success ahead. If we do not arranged goals, we may well not even understand if we could succeed or are unsuccessful. It is how goal provide us with challenges and allow us to get expectation. Setting goals is also important because it guides and directs us from what is required to be done. Apart from that, by setting up goals, it will help to boost level of self-confidence as well as do it yourself- esteem and most importantly to sustain the drive of a person by giving an obvious understanding of what must be achieved. Therefore, goal setting techniques is important to organizations and employees as well, so the SMART goal model as shown in number 1 is yet to stay its performance until today (Cothran & Wysocki, 2005).

Figure 1. SMART Goal Model. From Cothran and Wysocki (2005)

Apart from that, I had been also being involved in teambuilding event. With this event, working in teams and groupings is the main concentrate area which also places the same role when in an organization. An organization operates under many groups of people nevertheless they are all working as complete to keep carefully the organization heading. However, many do not really see the picture of it and needs some guide from such trained in order to view things in a different perspective.

Working in organizations is beneficial within an firm. Many organizations focuses in this field because working in a group increase efficiency, better response time and it will also assist in improving when it comes to decision making. Furthermore, group work can help one another to gain knowledge and learn more as you could train and pass on the knowledge to some other member and the other member could also exchange their understanding of another thing (Hartenian, 2002). This can help hinder misunderstanding as there are always others to help. Employed in groups will create the sense of belonging and also provide support to other (Scottish Connection of Citizens Advice Bureaux, 2012).

Coming together as group is not simple. It really is believed that developing a group usually undergoes the idea of group process where employees within an organization must proceed through four stages first; creating, storming, norming and carrying out. Within the first stage, in most cases how groups are form. Using the teambuilding event for example, the organization directs their worker for teambuilding event is to help their employee to allow the other to know one another. During the majority of the event, many staff will not know one another that well although they have been working under the same business. Therefore, at the start of the function, there will be an glaciers breaking session to permit people to get together. There would be a number of type of specific that are available in a business there maybe the shy ones', the talkative, the ecstatic ones', the leader, and many more (Scottish Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, 2012).

The next level would be storming. This is when the group role will emerge. For example, in training members will be split into group and will usually get a task that they need to work on. In the mean time, group roles will be rising. There will be a member who take the lead to start the task and followed by the others taking on their role. It really is a situation to be seen anywhere when it comes to employed in a group. Eventually, norming is the third process whereby after exploring each with their roles, they will now need to come together and work at common goals. In this process, each and everyone could have their own judgment and also their different thoughts but in this process, it is very common that they can all compromise with the other person on working for the shared goals (Scottish Association of Citizens Advice Bureaux, 2012).

After the 3rd process, performing would be the next group process a group will face. After having an agreement on their discussed ground rules and goals, they might naturally become more comfortable around each other and they'll be much familiar with each as well, given that they all have the same goal that they are excited too. If relating it back again to the training event example, as of this process, the group will be paying more attention towards the learning activities when compared with the group (Scottish Relationship of Individuals Advice Bureaux, 2012).

Additionally, group dynamic will also develop when there's a group. Group dynamics is known as patterns of interactions and the relationship that forms between your group users in the group environment where there must at least be three people interacting. It is observable in virtually any group a behavioural structure will emerge. It is an extremely common behaviour that group will develop. Some typically common behaviours that may be observe from a group is where there will be at least one member in the group that will tend to lead the group's conversation by showing his ideas liberally and also you will see at least one which is extremely quiet. The leader would be the one that has the trend to speak on behalf of the group and would be the one who occupies the responsibility to organize the users and ensures the job allocated has been completed. Some other common roles that'll be found are like the skeptics, which they are one's who've the negative perspective, and peacemaker, by which that member do nothing like seeing conflicts that goes off in the group and they'll always be the main one trying to get other members to acknowledge or compromise. After that, it can even be observe that there will be a timekeeper which is concern about doing the task with the due date given. Other common group tasks that exist in organizations are dominator, distracter, the silent member, philosopher and so many more. Group roles that exist in a group are establish by the individual's personality and activities of their own (Scottish Relationship of Residents Advice Bureaux, 2012).

Group dynamic is crucial in an company which is a must to boost group dynamics. The techniques used to improve and take care of group dynamics relies to the situation. However, some useful techniques like equalizing the participations maybe good to be use let's say in a meeting where the facilitator would wish contribution for from all member. Hence, it really depends on the situation you are in and the way the group should be handled depends on the task given as well ( Nazzaro & Strazzabosco, 2009).

Another point that certain must be aware of is how big is group since it is one factor that would have an impact on the features of group dynamic. When a group size grows there tend to be more members in an organization and there may be more member that could have similar quality and behaviour which can cause conflict. Additionally, when in a big group communication process will be reduce and some member including the calm ones' have an increased potential for being left out from the group. Therefore, it is taking care of that one must consider taking a look at when employed in groupings (Ramayah, Jantan, Nasurdin, & Koay, 2003).

In a nut shell, training and teambuilding occurrences do play important assignments to organizations. Such training like goal setting is very beneficial to a person and that will help one to became aware the importance from it and to allow them enhance and clean up the skills and probable they curently have in them that they never realize. With goal setting techniques, one would be able to achieve their concentrate on they have set effectively. I also acquired learn that never underestimate such training as it actually is very beneficial to help one realize how important it is to be productive, committed and encouraged in completing an activity. With goal setting, one will not be going about the duty blindly and you will be very productive person. Apart from that, I'm also able to note that group work is a center component when completing a task. The grade of work done would improve and the performance every member would increase as well. Being involve in the trainings have also taught me to understand more of how trainings would be useful in helping one to completely utilized the actual we've in us.

CHAPTER 4

4. 1 Suggestion and Conclusion

Analyzing that the target audience are men and women when attending such training, therefore it is essential to definitely consider the various type of solution to convey the learning to them. Being that they are working adults, almost all of them are incredibly knowledgeable so that it is crucial that working out which will be provided to them must able to capture their attention. Therefore, I would suggest that before the trainings, trainers should become aware of the participant's record ahead. After doing so, the trainer can produce more samples, situations or research study that relates to their field to grab their attention and make them to start pondering and relating it back again to themselves. It really is area of the Adult Learning principle where the individuals would like having instances or situation which they could associate it back their work - life situations. Furthermore, the rule also explained that adults tend to be of an competency-based learner making them individual who would prefer to get knowledge and skills which they could put it their logically with their environment. Doing so would also allow them to remember the info better as they could connect it back to their experiences or themselves (Edmunds, Lowe, Murray & Seymour, 2002).

Another suggestion would be that to help adult's learn better and become more effective would be getting these to learn with activities. Getting members to undergo some research study, work - related activities, group dialogue, on-the-job training are incredibly good solutions to get participants to totally learn a fresh thing (Edmunds, Lowe, Murray & Seymour, 2002). According to Pike (1989) research, it implies that the better to learn something would be performing it out while you are learning it as the result show that the training retention would reach 90% when we doing that which we say. It is important to keep the adults to actively take part when learning because we learn best with hands on method. It is rather similar to how we learn through trial-and-error. Furthermore, additionally it is essential include continuity and interaction when learning is to happen. This will allow the members to have the ability to learn something new and in a position to connect it using what they have got learn in the past to assist in modifying the specific knowledge from what was learn newly. Second of all, it is relationship that could play the other critical role where in fact the newly learned lessons should be continually used. This is because through connections with the average person environment, it allows and provides them the chance to be able to ensure that you practice the lessons that was trained (Reich, 2006).
