## 5. 1 Conclusions:

Using the initial FERET testing standard protocol, a typical PCA classifier performed better when working with Mahalanobis distance somewhat than L1, L2 or Angle. In a new set of experiments where the the training (gallery) and screening (probe) images were chosen randomly over 10 studies, Mahalanobis was again superior when 60% of the Eigenvectors were used. However, when only the first 20 Eigenvectors were used, L2, Viewpoint and Mahalanobis were equal. L1 did just a bit worse.

Our work to combine distance measures didn't result in significant performance improvement. Furthermore, the correlation on the list of L1, L2, Angle and Mahalanobis distance options, and their shared bias, shows that although advancements may be possible by combining the L1 measure with other steps, such improvements are likely to be small. We also likened the standard way for selecting a subset of Eigenvectors to 1 predicated on like-image similarity. While the like-image method seems just like a good idea, it generally does not perform better inside our experiments.
