What is LAN and WAN Network Architectures

WAN

A network is a link between several computers that show information, hardware and software with one another this connection can be proven via wireless or non-wireless advertising. LAN and WAN are two different systems that are used by users all around the world. The internet is an exemplory case of a WAN network, WAN was initially created in 1969 it was initially a networking task by ARPANET Pentagons Move forward Research Projects Company the main goal of the project was to allow scientists all over the world, at different locations to talk about their information. Only four variety nodes at the time and grew to 1000 variety nodes in 1984, today there are over 350 million coordinator nodes worldwide using the internet. The internet uses Website name and Ip to differentiate or identify the pcs connected to the internet. WAN is a network that spans over large physical areas and is also comprising smaller sites called LAN or MAN. WAN is mostly used for business, collecting information, communication and other daily uses whatever the user's location. There are many ways to gain access to the internet for example trough Wireless Internet Service Specialist, Access professional where some business that provides individuals and others and their workers usage of the internet with repayment or for free.

LAN

Local area network better known as LAN is a network that has a limited area such as a house, college, computer laboratory, workshop or a small workplace. LAN is generally connected through a twisted pair cable, hub or Wi-Fi, LAN is also faster than WAN due to small area of the network and that the network insufficient the need for a leased telecommunication lines, in order to talk about data, printers or a LAN party this means a gathering of users, personal computers and game consoles for a multiplayer game. In a LAN network there is the primary computer called a server and remote computers called clients, a LAN interconnection can be cordless or wired. Wired LAN network uses cable television to connect to all or any the personal computers which wish to sign up for the network and the key device called a move. The cellular however uses radio waves to connect with other clients.

Comparison between LAN and WAN Network Architectures

There a wide range of variations between LAN and WAN sites, the table exhibited below compares the many differences between both of these everyday systems.

Differences

LAN

WAN

Speed

Higher(1000mbps)

Lower(150mbps)

Owners

Owned and manipulated by only one user, organization or server

Not managed by anyone or any organization

Set up costs

Set-up costs are low as the devices are low-cost

Set-up cost is higher then LAN as the you will see a monthly payment for interconnection, some associations are free as they are provided by companies

Data transfer rate

Higher then WAN

Lower then LAN

Components

Use hubs, repeaters, bridges and switches

Use router, body relay switches and multilayer switches

Connection

Telephone lines and radio waves

Often connect trough public sites example phone lines, leased lines, satellite

Maintenance

LAN network encounters fewer problems as there are few systems to cope with.

Maintenance is easy, faster and cheaper than WAN

More mistakes are experienced in WAN as there are many systems that are in work.

Maintenance is harder, slower and is commonly more expensive then LAN

Geographical Area

LAN covers a location which is within 100meters in length

WAN protects a geographical area which is more than 100meters in length

Bandwidth

High bandwidth then WAN is accessible

Low bandwidth is accessible

Technical Part of LAN and WAN Network Architectures

LAN: How LAN connects

LAN has both wired and wireless methods to hook up to each other, most LAN networks have a cable tv running from every computer to a wall membrane jack. The wall structure jack is connected to an extremely similar kind of cable that runs to a patch panel in a wiring wardrobe. A patch panel is simply cable ports that allow all the cables coming out of each wall structure jack to be connected to the LAN widely. Any active wall jack must have the matching dock in the patch -panel connected to a change in the wiring wardrobe. A wiring closet is small room or area where all the wires hook up and a building that uses computer networking will have significantly more than one of the wiring closets positioned in them, these wiring closets are mainly utilized for LAN networking. If there a wide range of switches in a wiring wardrobe, they are linked to 1 or two switches within in the same wardrobe. These help to connect all of the switches there as well as some of the cable runs entering the area. The switches in a wiring wardrobe are connected to a switch pair in a primary wiring wardrobe. The switch set helps to connect the complete LAN alongside one another. These distribution switches connect to the routers that helps the network travel further, hook up the switches to the internet or the WAN thus increasing the LAN. LAN Network: Cabling or Wired network

Coaxial cable

Cable is a medium in where information flows freely in one network device to next and then the next. Within a LAN network there are various types of wires used to hook up the devices and pcs in it, in the first LAN cabling system LAN used various editions of the coaxial cable tv. These wires are hard to install and are highly immune to signal disturbance. They have a single central solid cable that symmetrically surrounded by a braided or foil conductor. Between your center line and foil you have the insulation cable and then comes the copper mesh and the outer insulator. C:\Users\individual\Downloads\coaxla. gif

Twisted-pair cable

A twisted-pair cable is a wire that is made with an interesting strategy, by intertwining the two separate insulated cables as well as a certain color code, using this method process it helps blocking out the electromagnetic interference EMI that might lead to problems in the information dispatched through it. This cable is also the hottest cable or the most suitable one for LAN networks. There are two different kinds of twisted pair cable unshielded twisted-pair UTP and shielded twisted-pair STP, the difference is that the STP has a fine line mesh that surrounds the cable to safeguard transmissions while the UTP does not, and this is why the UTP is more sensitive than the STP. The STP can also increase to maximum distances and can tolerate most environments. This wire was found in IBMs Token Ring in LAN execution.

Fiber Optic cable

Fiber optic wire is a the latest version of an LAN cable since the twisted-pair cable connection, this cable consists of tiny head of hair like fiber content optic glass pipes that transmit the data which is shielded by several tiers of protective materials called Kevlar. These head of hair like glass pipes transmit information or data with light indicators rather than electronic digital signals, with this design and technology he fiber optic cable television eliminates electrical interference, the cable television is also known for its immunity to the consequences of dampness and lightning rendering it ideal for network connections between complexes. This cable has the ability to transmit impulses faster and further then both the coaxial and twisted-pair cable. However there are several down sides of the wire, which are the cable is more challenging to install and more costly than both twisted-pair cable television and the coaxial wire. LAN Network Topology

Network topology is the way they are built where the network of computers and devices connect, each of the topology are used for a specific task and have their own advantages and disadvantages. The pcs or users in a network topology are called nodes. Most network topology use a cable as a medium.

Bus Topology

The bus network topology is the easiest way to hook up with multiple nodes, the bus has an individual main cable that connects to other nodes, this main wire is also called the backbone. Each node is connected one right after the other over the backbone, data or information that is sent from a node undergoes the backbone until it gets to its receiving node, if an information or data directed such as an email does not gets to the getting node it will be delivered to the terminator which deletes the email completely. The bus is often used for employing Ethernet at 10mbps. C:\Users\user\Downloads\bus_topology. gif

Advantages

Disadvantages

Easy to hook up to computer or peripheral

Backbone breaks entire system shutdown

Requires less cable tv length then legend topology

Troubleshooting is difficult

Ring Topology

The diamond ring network is a network topology where each node links to two other nodes beside it developing a circle or wedding ring and a single continuous hyperlink, the nodes are then connected to a primary node or the first node. In the network information is transmitted from one node to the other, which means that a node functions as both the device and sender. C:\Users\customer\Downloads\RING_Topology. png

Advantages

Disadvantages

Easy to cable and install

If one node fails entire system fails

Troubleshooting is difficult when the complete network fails.

Star Topology

Star topology is the most frequent network topology used, unlike the previous topology network the legend has a hub or move in its center, which serves as a conduit that transmits information through the network. Every device in the network is connected to the hub. The hub will not preform filtering or routing type jobs. C:\Users\user\Downloads\figure2. jpg

Advantages

Disadvantages

Easy to change and add new computers to network without shutting down network

Requires more cable connection then bus and ring topology

If one node fails all of those other network will still function

If the hub or swap goes fails the whole network fails

Troubleshooting is easy

More expensive

WAN:

NSP

NSP also known as network provider is an corporation that does business by offering bandwidth or access to networks like the internet by giving the backbone usage of the internet itself therefore the NSP is sometimes referred to or also called backbone providers or internet providers. WAN network uses NSP to connect to other sites surrounding the world which is how, by joining the NSP of other WANs together using links at Internet Packet Interchanges a global communication infrastructure is produced, these interchanges are also called peering things. The NSPs do not generally handle specific customer accounts aside from the major corporate customers, but instead offer with intermediate organizations they can ask for for high capacity communications. They generally produce an agreement to switch certain quantities of data at a certain quality of service with other NSPs. So nearly any NSP can reach some other NSP, but may necessitate the use of one or even more other NSP systems to reach the required destination. NSPs fluctuate in terms of the transit delay, transmission rate, and connection offered. C:\Users\consumer\Downloads\wan. gif

WAN:

Dial-up access

Dial-up internet is a connection which is manufactured by the modem that is built in your personal computer and through a standard telephones lines, by operating by running the telephone line to the modem the computer can connect to the internet. This dialing must be achieved with a specific phone number. The dial-up system is a way that is finished. of days gone by as it will take a long time to determine a connection with the internet, when it can the internet speed will be very slow.

DSL

DSL or dial subscribe brand is a family of technologies that provide internet access by transmitting data by using the local telephone lines. POTS or better known as THE USUAL Cell phone Service One, POTS makes the most of the telephone company's wires and equipment is by restricting the frequencies that the switches, telephones and other equipment will take. Individual voices, speaking in normal conversational tones, can be carried in a rate of recurrence selection of 0 to 3, 400 Hertz cycles per second for a great demo of this. This range of frequencies is little. These mobile phone lines are linked by copper wire connections to each home.

Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi is a wireless modem which allows your computer to connect to the internet. Wi-Fi can be less secure then your internet connections as inclement weather or any other electronic interferences could ruin the connection. Wi-Fi has adopted various encryption technologies. The early encryption WEP, turned out easy to break. Top quality protocols WPA, WPA2 were added later. An optional feature added in 2007, called Wi-Fi Protected Installation or WPS, had a serious flaw that allowed an attacker to recuperate the router's security password.

Slow swiftness technology

High rate technology

Dial-up access uses a modem built-in the computer that connects to the telephone line in the house to hook up to the internet

Cable modem, DSL, WI-FI and satellite television modems

Connection must be started up when computer is flipped on

Connection is definitely on, when computer is running
