Emotions In 'A Mom IN A VERY Refugee Camp'

The poems Warfare Photographer by Carol Ann Duffy, A Mom in a Refugee camp by Chinua Achebe, nor Go Gentle into that Good Night by Dylan Thomas may initially seem to truly have a little in keeping. However, although these three poems are basically completely different, in both their historical and sociable context, yet all of them are connected by the same theme 'Strong Feelings'. Strong feeling is a major feeling that can be in virtually any form and may take place anytime. Furthermore this is often a bond which links back to you people together helping us through anguish and hardships. In this particular essay I am going to mainly concentrate how each poem conveys the strong personal feelings of the poet through literary devices. In addition to the poems from the anthology, three poems are also chosen for personal references. They are: Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen, Stealing by Carol Ann Duffy along with the Soldier by Rupert Brooke.

In Dulce et Decorum Est, Wilfred Owen has describe a gas harm during World Warfare One along with his strong emotions. He's strongly denying the concept of offering your country is glorious. The words used in the section about the gas harm represents both the pain of the subjects from the gas assault and the effect on those people who have seen the field. 'Watch the white eyes writhing in his face' Utilizing the alliteration and put emphasis to the 'w' sound it is able to reflect the fighting of the gas patients. This imagery is very powerful because we can imagine the change in the victims face looked after suggests that warfare is cruel and it is a waste of young people's life.

Similarly, in Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Nights the poet Dylan Thomas has pointed out about death with strong emotions. However in this poem the relationship is between a son and a daddy. Also Dylan Thomas is trying to encourage his dad to keep his life rather than showing the weaknesses of human race in Conflict Photographer. And in so doing a big variety of literacy technique were used. The iambic pentameter was used throughout the poem which can give a regular beat and rhythm to the visitors; this may then help persuade his father to fight fatality because the iambic pentameter can give out a continuing sense to the audience. Moreover, assonance was also used. 'age group, rare, day' gives out hard looks when read out which can enhance the result of iambic pentameter, these punchy noises also help offering a stronger tempo for the poem to boost the sense of persuasion and help amplify the communication given to the father. Combined with the assonance there is also repetition within the poem 'do not go gentle into that good night'. This metaphor was used often, where good nights is compared to death, in order to his father never to quit easily and also to battle with all his might. Again this can be used to give out a better sense of persuasion for his dad. Furthermore, from the personification 'old time should burn off' Dylan Thomas is trying to suggest old people should still have the soul to fight for their life and shouldn't die so easily and with such apathy. Which from these techniques we can easily see how much love is indicated through the poem from the kid towards the daddy. And we can see how Dylan Thomas has used the theme of strong sentiment in this poem.

In Stealing, Carol Ann Duffy also based mostly this poem with the theme of strong emotion by using symbolization. The snowman, stands as symbolic for the loneliness of the character's situation. As the character destroys the snowman 'booted him. Again. Again. ' additionally it is a symbol to point how violent the speaker is. These symbols are powerful because visitors are shown the loudspeakers loneliness, where he/she needs to steal a snowman as a mate to escape loneliness.

In comparability to the others, A mother in a refugee camp discusses more about love throughout a war. Once the mother is wanting to look after her kid in a refugee camp, where every step they take is very important to them because you might die whenever. And from the structure of poem, we're able to note that there is merely one whole continuous stanza in support of two long sentences which connotes there is absolutely no end to suffering throughout that time and fatality is unavoidable. In addition this long, complicated, multi-clause sentence implies the long, drawn-out fighting of someone dying from starvation. The alliteration 'behind blown-empty bellies' also shows the arena of a baby in a refugee camp. The hollow vowel sounds 'e, i, o' and the plosive alliteration 'b' audio suggest the emptiness of the children's stomachs. How the baby is experiencing long term starvation causing his tummy to raise up, which can then suggest the infant itself would have problems with death at any moment. Addititionally there is an irony, these bellies look full however in reality these are empty. Also, the juxtaposition 'The air was heavy' help connotes how bad the situation is within the refugee camp, with having less hygiene it'll improve the mortality of people this can then suggest people should value each and every moment of the life because many people are dying within the camp. This juxtaposition is very powerful because the distressing sensory appeal to the smell is very strong. The comparatives from the poem 'In their former life this is perhaps a little daily act of no results' this mom, despite the imminent loss of life of her son, is still lavishing love on him, by combing his wild hair. This again shows how deadly the situation is, where a close relative might die in virtually any minute, therefore they need to treasure whenever they have mutually in the refugee camp. Here the poet is talking about the famine caused by war (Biafran War) in his indigenous Nigeria. His specific description illustrates his outrage at the battling cause by conflict. Which strong feeling from the poet is effectively offered to the viewers by these literary devices.

In The Soldier, Rupert Brooke creates about a soldier who enjoys his own country. In case he should die in a far away battlefield people should still discover him as a English. Showing how much beliefs the soldier has towards his country. 'Cleaned by the streams, blest by suns of home. ' This strong image creates a feeling of peacefulness and a unity with nature. This shows Great britain to be more superior to other places. And force visitors to start to see the place in the same light as the poet.

In summary, from the research conducted for the three poems. We can see these poets have used a variety of structural and literary devices to spotlight the energy of strong emotions behind each poem. From Battle Photographer, Carol Ann Duffy has covey the misery cause by warfare in an exceedingly emotional way. Aswell as in Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night the theme was also strong thoughts however the notion of the poem was different. Furthermore in A Mother in a Refugee Camp strong emotions was also the main theme of the poem. Therefore, strong emotions were the key theme of most three poems and it offers provokes a profound mental response from the visitors.
