In The Stranger, by Albert Camus, Meursaults identity is unveiled as the book progresses. In the first area of the reserve he shows his feelings towards others and what he thinks of them. Down the road in the second part of the book, he begins to realize other people's feelings towards him which in the end contributes to demonstrating his personality. He does not grief over his mother's fatality and he will not feel remorse for murdering an Arab and these show that he is wintry hearted and careless whilst unemotional towards tragic situations. The main character is also convicted of getting rid of the Arab and still feels no remorse towards the event and when his lawyer asks him why he will not cry, he claims "it didn't mean anything". His murder of the Arab shows he doesn't have any ethical values and will not make any moral decisions. He doesn't have any knowledge or reasoning behind his actions and he murders the Arab due to the sunshine being too "hot". He also mentioned he didn't have confidence in god and god gives people rules to follow in order to prevent horrible activities such as murder. Since Meursault does not have theological beliefs, he starts to be more of a menace to the modern culture. Meursault becomes a threat to culture through his theological beliefs, epistemological reasoning behind his activities, and his unethical decisions.
Meursaults theological beliefs are unveiled in the first chapter of the next part of the reserve when an official asks him if he feels in god. "But he trim me off and urged me one last time, pulling himself up to his full height and requesting me if I thought in God. I said no. " (pg. 66, paragraph 2, brand 2-5) This implies that he says he will not have confidence in god. Theology is the analysis of god and spirituality and for Meursault not to have any theological values means he does not have any knowledge of god which does mean he doesn't have any limitations for his actions. In cases like this his theological belief is that there surely is no god. God gives everyone guidelines by means of religion. Without these rules, actions will be dedicated without remorse, like the activities of Meursault. For him never to have confidence in god means he doesn't have guidelines to follow and is free to do whatever he needs to. Some may believe that faith is imprisoning us of liberty but it actually helps us stay in the limitations of protection under the law and wrong so we do not step in to the circle of wrongs which also pertains to our ethical values. The chaplain says, "Then god can assist you. Every man I have known in your position had considered him. " (pg. 111, paragraph 2, lines 4-6) Meursault says, " I gone up to him and made one previous attempt to explain to him which i had a little time still left and I didn't want to waste materials it on God. . . . . I began yelling at the top of my lungs, and I insulted him. . . . . I grabbed him by the collar of his cassock. " (pg. 114, paragraph 1 (lines 12-14), paragraph 3 (brand 2-4)) This implies that the chaplain offers Meursault to visit god for comfort and Meursault says he doesn't want to waste materials his time on God and then insults the chaplain and grabs him by the collar. This shows he lacks theological beliefs because if the Religious man was speaking with the chaplain instead, he would take the advice and say thanks to the chaplain and the individual would certainly not grab the chaplain by the collar because a chaplain is from church which means he's with God and his boundaries would prevent the Christian man from getting the chaplain. Since Meursault didn't have theological values, he didn't have any boundaries, and therefore, acted rudely towards the chaplain. These show that Meursault can do anything without caring because he does not have any boundaries due to his disregard of theological values. This ultimately leads to Meursault becoming a threat to society because he will commit the same activities without remorse scheduled to his insufficient perception in God.
Monsieur Meursault's actions had very little epistemological reasoning behind them. Epistemology is the analysis or theory of knowledge and introduces questions such as: are Meursaults actions competent or are they based on impulse. His activities were definitely not knowledgeable and were predicated on natural impulse. "Then she wished to know if I liked her. I clarified the same way I had formed the previous time, that it didn't mean anything. . . " (pg. 40, paragraph 2, range 4-6). This offer demonstrates that Meursault answers on impulse and says he doesn't service and he says it doesn't mean anything. This isn't proficient because love means a great deal and it's really a great element in keeping a couple of jointly and he doesn't caution which, again, shows he is careless about everything. He will not think before he works because he doesn't care about other people's feelings and only talks of things that indicate only upon him showing he is a selfish human being. His insufficient epistemological reasoning behind his decision can occur in other occurrences and it can bring about many other fatalities or break ups of a family group. When he attacks the chaplain and grabs his collar, it portrayed his impulsive effect and he didn't caution how many other people thought and this demonstrated more of his carelessness which can result in tragic events. Also his activities show too little epistemology because of the fact that nothing of the things he did were rational. When he creates an offensive letter on Raymond's behalf, he doesn't think it over and says he'll right it. Reasoning is the study of right reasoning and that was not right reasoning because he does not reason by any means whilst saying he'd write it on impulse. The fact that he put his mother in a home shows his lack of reasoning and this it was not logical at all. Any sane person would look for money or another job to earn a living to keep his/her mother near them so that their mother will not feel unloved, but Meursault did not even make an effort to keep his mom at his house and delivers her straight to a home. He has the money to have a train ride to his mother's funeral however, not to keep his mom with him. A teach solution costs about 90 Euros but a loaf of breads costs about one. 5 Euros and for him to say he does not have money to keep his mother with him is insane because his mother would help him clean, make food, and comfort Meursault when he needs it. He still determines to send her away which ultimately shows it had not been logical. Each one of these ultimately lead to the actual fact that Meursault is a hazard to modern culture because he lacks epistemology and reasoning which show his carelessness to others around him.
In the first section of the book Meursaults mother dies. He does not grieve over her loss of life which confirmed it was an unethical decision. Whenever a relative dies, the other family members show a whole lot of grief over his/her loss of life which would show the family made an honest decision of grieving in the dead relative. Ethics is the analysis of right and incorrect and it is clear his action of not grieving over his mother's fatality is wrong. "He wanted to write her a notice, one with a punch and also some things in it to make her sorry for what she's done. Then, when she'd keep coming back, he'd go to bed with her and right at the last second he'd spit in her face and chuck her out. Yes, that would punish her, I thought. But Raymond explained he didn't think he could write the sort of letter it would take which he'd thought of asking me to write it for him. Since I didn't say anything, he'd asked me if I would mind carrying it out right then and I said no. "(Pg. 30-31, range 28-38). This quote demonstrates Meursault creates a notice that will wrap up hurting a female and this can be an extremely unethical decision because it isn't right to make the girl sorry so that Raymond could later spit in her face and throw her out. He doesn't consider ethics and creates it because he didn't care. Close to the end of chapter six when Meursault shoots the Arab, he does not feel any remorse later on. He doesn't care and does not think of the Arabs family and how they might feel to find the Arab inactive. His actions were unethical and weren't right. He states, ". . . I never designed to eliminate the Arab. . . . i blurted out that it was due to sunshine. " (pg. 98, paragraph 2, lines 6-7, 13-14). This demonstrates he eliminates the Arab because of the fact that it was hot which is not ethical whatsoever because a relative was lost scheduled to his unethical action whilst not showing any remorse to the incident. When one does not make moral decisions without sense any remorse to the wrongs he did, it can be intimidating for the culture because he could murder again without nurturing and he could begin to kill innocent lives. These show that Meursault is a danger to society due to his many unethical decisions he makes.
In summary, Meursault became a hazard to culture thorough the unethical decisions he makes, his disbelief of theology-god, and his epistemological and illogical reasoning behind his doings. He does not grieve over his mother's death nor have any remorse after getting rid of the Arab which shows his unethical decisions which show he will not take in consideration whether if it was right or wrong. He also mentions he will not have confidence in god meaning he does not have any boundaries. He is absolve to do whatever he desires to and can not have remorse to the wrong decisions because he will not have confidence in god which means he doesn't have any guidelines to follow. He disorders the chaplain which shows he doesn't value the people that were with god and he talked about he did not want to waste any moment on god. This shows how careless of everything he's and he begins to become more of threat to the contemporary society and the people around him. He also doesn't have reasoning behind his activities and they're not logical and solely based on his selfish thoughts and nothing of the activities are knowledgeable. All these demonstrate that Meursault became a threat to society scheduled to his disbelief and disregard in the aspects of theology, epistemology, and ethics which can be elements used in everyday activities so that folks do not get rid of or hurt each other. Meursault did not consider some of those thus learning to be a threat.
