David Hockney mentioned "All art work is contemporary if it's alive, and if it's not alive, what's the idea from it?" ;Essentially the most fascinating factor about modern-day art is that it's alive. It presents our society, our life and our time. What is contemporary fine art then? Contemporary skill describes the proper execution of fine art which is presents in the relatively recent times. The time of origin for the modern art varies in relation to contemporary art museum. However, it was usually positioned in later 1900. Contemporary skill is a lot more socially mindful than some other previous art forms have been. It deals with the one issue or another such as feminism, Helps, Multiculturalism, and Globalization. Vietnamese modern day art work isn't an exception. Many contemporary artists want to speak their speech for positive and negative side of interpersonal issues in Hanoi. Rapid globalization and its own effects on Vietnamese people are one of the famous subjects to be considered because it of its strong impact in Vietnamese society. So that it has effects on contemporary art work as well. Although there is more flexibility in Vietnamese contemporary art than in the past, not a lot of Contemporary painters in Vietnam are including note such as philosophical questions or sociable issues in their artworks. Still, there have been a small variety of painters such as Pham Ngoc Duoc, Nguyen Thuy Hang who experienced strong subject matter in their artwork.
Throughout this article observation of just how Vietnamese artist express themselves about globalization in Vietnam will be achieved. Yet, understanding of globalization in Vietnamese modern culture and contemporary artwork in Vietnam is essential for deeper understanding
The Community issues of globalization in Vietnam
Globalization was very essential for Vietnam before. After experiencing war and isolation for many decades, Vietnam desperately needed development. Today, with huge change and growth induced by globalization, it is becoming one of the very most rapid growing countries in Asia. At first, globalization was just known in an effort to boost the economies swiftly because of all positive factors that globalization creates such as, improvement in technology and international travelling, increase in countrywide income and creation of outsourcing concept. Nonetheless, in newer years, globalization was not considered very positive due to the some side effects it created. For instance, Spread of dangerous disease such as HIV/AID and upsurge in terrorism, individual trafficking, job insecurity created by higher competitiveness for business have been regarded as negative factors of globalization in Vietnamese contemporary society.
Although there are numerous economical, environmental shortcoming of globalization, communal effects give effect on people the most. Thus, it is simpler for the musicians and artists to observe globalization in a interpersonal content. You can find three main sociable things of globalization inside our society that contain been described frequently in contemporary art.
First is losing in recognition of personal characteristic due to social confusion helped bring by globalization. With easier contact between your countries caused by development of ICT or long distance transpiration caused by globalization, there are less social differences between your countries. This may reduce the misunderstanding or insufficient communication but it addittionally threatens the cultural diversity of any country. Damage in traditional culture and superiority of western culture is produced by this change.
It is straightforward to recognize that traditional life style in Hanoi is changing dramatically, even to an eye of an foreigner like me. Traditional service such as wedding and funeral have become simpler and much more american, traditional food is changing into european fast-food style since junk food franchisor such as KFC is now more common. Even family life style is changing. Recently, an average Vietnamese family would have three era; grandparent, parents and children, however now only two technology remains alongside one another; parents and the youngster. This sort of change could result lost in identification of certain young era. Young people reward american culture and lifestyle and try to are more like them yet, they can be moving into half traditional half westernized culture. This can makes bafflement of whom they are really and which culture they have to follow.
The second subject is the unsuitability of varied modern global contemporary society. While some young people understand and adapt the huge amount of novel culture, there are certainly others who have issues comprehending them. These are usually people who don't have usage of new technology and information which are necessary to understand modern global life. People with low income and maturing generations are an example. This inaptness can make sure they are feel isolated from the rest of the society causing major depression and mental wounds.
This contributes to the last issue which is the increase of division in different categories comprised in a single society. Old technology won't be able to understand young generation because their culture is just so different. Young generation can access to overseas culture easier than the elders while the elders would keep their traditional culture. They might possibly get different point of view from different culture causing more gaps and misunderstandings.
The biggest reason why these issues are most concerned within contemporary painters is because they affect the local people straightly and significantly. As a result the musicians and artists who are observing the environment and people around them could easily separate them.
Contemporary fine art in Vietnam
Vietnamese contemporary artwork is very young since it only started in 1990s. It might be immature and self-centered yet it is exclusive, impressive and original. This fascinating contemporary art picture in Hanoi was only possible because of independence that is helped bring by Doi Moi insurance plan and approval of some skills helped bring by French colony.
French colonize commenced by the end of nineteenth century, the People from france introduced the technique of petrol painting to Vietnam and in 1925, they proven 'Echole des decorated' to educate Vietnamese students about the professional painting of traditional French skill. Reasonable and impressionistic style was adapted during this time period. In lots of years before the trend Vietnamese painting was mainly displayed by dreamy scenery painted by French style. Nevertheless After the independence from the People from france in 1945, Vietnam has chosen to be socialist country. The government manipulated all branches of art work to fit with the politics of the country. Vietnamese art's only interest was based on trend, especially in north areas such as Hanoi. Artist's judgment wasn't a prominent element in their fine art. Anything apart from revolution such as Nudes, Still life and abstract images were judged as ineffective, selfish. Also, it was the act of betraying the socialist ideology. Then, after the acceptance of Doi Moi insurance policy by Vietnamese government in middle-1980s, the art work picture in Vietnam completely altered. There was more openness if Vietnamese skill and artist experienced more flexibility about this issue of the artwork. They could finally concern a different perspective using their artwork. Now, Vietnamese performers are receiving international success. Due to the globalization many arrivals of the international investors, the Vietnamese art work market has grown dramatically and and yes it is easier for many artists to review abroad and find out new point of view of art work.
Since Doi Moi there were two sets of artists who have different ideas about art work. One group uses the original art aspect from French colonization time with romanticized images of Vietnam such as monk under banana or lotus leaf, a girl in traditional tunic. The other flipped their critical eyes on political or social concern on Vietnam. However, the music artists who got strong critical note had received more international popularity.
But the amounts of these artists are very few. Most of the contemporary artists' interest is dependant on traditional sense of Vietnam. These music artists claim that they may be representing their heart and spirit of the Vietnamese ethnical traditions. These artists is probably not welcomed in international fine art, but they take control the majority of main stream skill. One similarity which both of these groups of designer have is that they are not having easy amount of time in Vietnamese contemporary art world. While Vietnamese painters who are presenting their artwork in mainstream fine art stay passive because of lack of support, the others have to show their work only in underground skill world. Underground art is a form of art which identifies the skill that is external or on the fringes of popular culture. It is often unofficial and away from mass media The key reason why this group of artist has shown their work unofficially is because
Contemporary Vietnamese fine art has amazing potential. It is necessary to put some effort and protection so that there won't be any obstacle for its growth.

Pham Ngoc Duong 790
Pham Ngoc Duong is a famous modern artist that has participated in many modern day art actions in Hanoi. He was born in 1976 in Vietnam; He graduated from the Vietnam University of artwork and lived in Hanoi. Since 1997 his art works have been exhibited with numerous teams. He also offers had single exhibition in many countries such as France, Switzerland, China, Norway, USA, Singapore, Japan as well as Vietnam.
His recent exhibition "People in the town" reflects the negative aspect of Vietnamese culture caused by globalization and other sociable concerns.
What I first came to the realization with this artwork is the fact that it has efficiently created the atmosphere of real Vietnamese local person residing in poverty. It certainly carried out the sense of Vietnamese person realistically. The primary figure of the painting is a mid-age man who is packed into a squared shape of invisible field. It is not difficult to identify that he's tired and uncomfortable. His rough face appears to record all the hardship he had to go though in his life. His clothes look shabby and filthy. He's perhaps a homeless beggar or a laborer seeking to settle cold weather. What's for sure is that he's low-class local one who struggles to live on every day. The man is shrinking his body, possibly to keep his body warm from winter. Overall, the painting conveys painfully limited and sympathy feeling by using Local Vietnamese man sleeping in a wintry as a subject. Color, condition and space takes on important role as aspect of art to generate this emotion. The color of this artwork is very gloomy and dreary. The Dark color of his face and clothes contrast with white, simple background. The main amount uses both warm and cool color to make them complement to one another. Hence, this constructs an imbalanced and uncomfortable mood. Nothing of the colors that he used is vivid. All of them are muddy and dark. Rectangular form of the artwork makes the artwork look unique yet it makes the figure appear constrained and stuffy. The Clear, white space in the background stresses on isolated and hazy emotion. Generally, use of marketing and art factor is very pleasing. The gradation of firmness and smoothness built natural and realistic looking effect.
After having an interview with the designer, it was better to have better knowledge of the his artworks. Mr. Duong said he was essentially wanting to expose through this feeling built-in the artwork is the portrait of folks who are living under difficult circumstances and pressure. The pressure caused by rapidly changing contemporary society, pressure from too little understanding of modern life, pressure from changes in culture, and from a lack of human privileges. He discussed that while studying art in French, he used to pull the faces of low-class laborers, and when he returned to Vietnam, he carried out the same pulling with Vietnamese laborers. He realized that the French laborers had more supple and comfortable cosmetic features while many Vietnamese laborers are incredibly strong and restless. Then he began to look at faces of people around him like his mother, his friends and other strangers in the pub. He felt the pressure and firmed pain like a slough within people's mind. He said it is because the Vietnamese culture forces to keep people inside the shape. Unlike French people who frequently have liver organ performances, other social activities or even to console with others to let all the stress and pressures out, Vietnamese people don't frequently have this opportunity. Therefore they have to are in a box not to harm or scrape other folks in the contemporary society.
I asked him why he contains such a negative point of view in his artwork he said "In the event that you only want to see positivity of the life span, it is hard when you face the harsh reality. For me personally, it is vital to laugh and have fun with the reality even it could be cruel". He also said "Although not many Vietnamese people can understand this is behind the artwork deeply, sometimes musicians and artists try to console their disappointments and aches with their artworks". He also mentioned about his recent exhibition, "With my exhibition, I wanted to portray the interior reasoning as well as the exterior contradictions of Vietnamese culture which are concealed behind people's face".
The way he perceives the Vietnamese modern culture was easy to understand since it is rather near my point of view. I liked how he sent the revolting truth in the funny innovative manner. The usage of material was older and excellent. The communication of the artwork was strong and well shown. In addition, this artwork trained me a very important lesson that designers shouldn't focus on only on brighter sides of one matter. On the other hand, they should consider simple fact and conveys problem whether it could be recognized to the general public or not. This might make the difference in the world.

Nguyen Thuy Hang up 436
Another artist who has shown the portrait of Vietnam in quick changing society is Nguyen Thuy Hang. She was born in 1978, graduated from the College or university of Fine Arts of Ho Chi Minh City with a B. A. in 2002. She attended the young painters' arts give program of 2006 in Melbourne, Australia, at the same time; she analyzed privately in Minnesota and California in U. S. A. She was created immediately after the Vietnam-American war. So, her generation has fewer burdens from sorrow and injury of the conflict. These are indirectly aware of the players, success, and failure of the warfare and they have to face the results of ended warfare. She also was raised with the experiences the development of globalization since she was created approximately when the globalization commenced in Vietnam. As a result, she experienced seen and experienced the expense of fast globalization in her life.
For Many years, she disapproved of participate in skill world in Vietnam. She disliked the actual fact that the Vietnamese publicity cares "Acceptable musician expressions" more than the genuine quality of the task. In addition, inescapable subject of popularity and fortune burdened her as well. Thuy Suspend commentary that she recognizes the Vietnamese modern-day imaginative world as male-dominated. She says "its understated known fact that people women, work more continuously and constantly than men. Men work in infrequent period; yet, they have significantly more regular exhibition and better known".
Thuy Hang often handles a feeling of alienation among modern women of Vietnam, sometimes in surrealistic. Her recent exhibition, 'The Bunch' also contains her unique discomfort. Her sculptures contain wood, metal and white bandage. There are various metal faces without expression mounted on branches of tress. The tree is about one meter and fifty centimeter long and fifty centimeter large. Tree is looking awkwardly segregated from the ground and just a bit mutated. Its trunk is too brief set alongside the brunch and its own root is balancing unsafely on the floor. The complete tree is rolled by white bandage. Most of its brunches are very short and it offers small metal faces attached in the end. Together, the artwork has very horrific and hurtful yet unique and melancholic atmosphere. The skill elements which create this ambiance are form and surface. The form of the artwork is very important since it is 3D sculpture. The curvaceous type of three and inexplicable condition of the faces makes the artwork look more spooky. The actual fact that it doesn't have any facial appearance makes the audience marvel and think about about them. The consistency of metallic face and white bandage is applicable more emotion to the artwork.
The white bandage in this work is really used for mourning and the trees and shrubs are from the branches of actual trees which were demolished as Vietnam began to be globalized and even more developed. The white bandage also contains the artist's expect a better, easier society. She is purifies the disappointment what she within the street of Hanoi. All of the sculptures in her exhibition were called 'That Bunch'. Thuy Hang used this term to describe people of her post-war technology including herself. It really is ironic that this generation tries to spell it out itself 'That Bunch'
This represents the ladies who are battling to establish themselves in a world captured in the violence of immediate development induced by globalization.
Thuy Hang's work is mysterious yet very thoughtful. The choice of medium seems careful, going out of strong impression. It is speaking its view obviously while being tranquil indirect. In my point of view, this artwork might be seeking to gaming system and comfort the harm, ignored heart and soul of the contemporary society. Overall, the artwork conveys dreadful experience within the interior concern with alienation that musician has harmoniously.
Other artworks that feedback on globalization
New lifestyle by Nguyen Van Ho obviously presents the change in life style and its outcome on the society. The painting shows modernized landscape in Vietnam with unique use of essential oil color a lot like impressionists. The painting shows the scene in the bus which shows the reality of modern Vietnamese's' lifestyle well.
The anxious and vacant look after the man's face contrasts with alien like girl's arrogant and thoughtless face. The artworks stress on the division between citizens credited to globalization.
This artwork by Dinh Thi Tham Poong shows the women in traditional tribal outfits. Initially, the artwork could appear like one of the common modern day Vietnamese artwork resembling beauty of traditional Vietnamese custom. A closer evaluation will reveal these women are on both edges of historical and modern customs. Through this intricacy the designer has elevated the question about women's id between custom and modern.
I think Vietnamese modern artwork has great potential that was not veiled yet. It is important to give more support and attention because at this time some artists are experiencing hard time just exhibiting artworks to the general public officially. WHEN I write this article I noticed that it isn't just artistic features that produce great artwork. It need long procedure for concerning the issue and addressing deeply understand them. I hope to create and experience more of great artworks is not only visually nice image.
