Symbolism WITH THE Journey English Literature Essay

Our world is filled with symbols. A symbol is something that symbolizes something else, either by association or by resemblance (Symbolism, XXX). It can be a material subject or a written sign used to stand for something invisible. "Symbols are used to convey thoughts, describe adjustments, presents individuals, heighten turmoil and create various moods". (clugston, p. 7. 3) It seems that everything in our world uses symbols to communicate. In Language words are icons. In Writing symbolism employs phrase, to spell it out, or symbolize deeper meanings. In Religion symbols are being used in text message, images and techniques, objects to explain a perception. In Mathematics symbols are being used to represent figures, operations and establish or other functions. Inside the Politics symbols are used to represent politics stands, often in banners, pictures, mottos and other things. There are symbols for colors, Structures, and the list go on permanently. This newspaper will show symbolism on paper, between a short account and a poem. Within the brief "the worn Course" written by Eudora Welty and "THE STREET not considered" by Robert Frost symbolism can be used in the subject, langue, and the energy of preference.

Robert Frost published "The Road not considered" his poetry is essential to understanding and knowing that acoustics symbolism is put to use generally in the works of a given poet to fruitfully supplement traditional analyses of particular passages" (Borroff, 1992, p. 1) Robert Frost is most beneficial known for his skills in langue of the "speaking tone" not conspicuously marked by the systems of alliteration and assonance that characterize other writers. The Title in the poem is symbolism since it set the reader on edge right from the start. The poem will not tell who the presenter is, or more importantly whether they might be respected. The poem will not give much information about the speaker but immediately a "path" is released. The "path" a symbol for of your decision uses words to make clear his dilemma. The best decision or the path he's walking on; and the life he's leading, is going to put into two separate highways up forward. Leaves are dropping and the roads aren't much traveled. The title acts as symbolic to so show the poem use symbolism. The two streets diverged in a yellowish hardwood, and the writer leaves the audience sorry he can not travel both paths. You can find two pathways, he must choose one or the other, this is for certain symbolism founded by with the name.

The poem not only shows symbolism in the title, but all four stanza of the poem are similarly full of icons. The langue of the poem expresses symbolism, words like "grassy and required wear" and "more overgrown", help us to make a clear picture the street demand a decision not obvious by the naked eye. The dialect of the poem brings symbolism to the presenter choice and freedom. The presenter in the poem opt to take the first journey not following other people's footsteps, makes the decision his very own. This course of action in his life will display that a concern was given when he attained the road and a conclusion was made that will change his life permanently. He can never return back and remake is initial decision, it is last. The work of the copy writer was to make the ultimate decision clear to the audience, so he used "choosing the road less journeyed has made a notable difference in his life" (clugston) The words employed by the writer says plainly the his choosing this road make all the difference in his life by aiding him develop his own direction. The poem used descriptive words showing symbolism right from the start to the end of the poem, each stanza delivers a definite decision that has to be made and has been made.

The title of the poem may very well be the key to understanding this poem. The subject talks about the road not used, so immediately we commence to concentrate on something that others don't do. We can think about think like miss opportunities, or things others won't do. The subject show indifference and unbalance, about a minute the road is less traveled, another minute it is grassy, or both pathways equally covered with fresh leaves. It appears the article writer is moving from morning to night time, or spring and coil to fall, or winter.

The poem also uses symbolism showing choice. The choice influences the speakers' figure in the poem. The usage of symbolism in the poem help the audience to comprehend that the choice made is a life decision. The poem shows the traveler make a choice that is everlasting, the one that will be significant in his life. The decision is shown that the poem perhaps is given in future tense, because the writer says with a "sigh" which demonstrates the telling of the story will be done over and over again time. The presenter made a selection, and needed a course, he gave up his chance to use another path, or choose again. The decision help the reader to see by use of symbolism that life can be a time of complexities of preference. Life can be packed with missed opportunities and alternatives. The decision is not just a path but a means of life.

For our second journey into our review on symbolism we have determined "A Worn Course" that was first posted in 1941 (Orr, 1992) and is still a very extensively read short account. A character history (Clugston, 2010), "A Worn Avenue" is a brief story about a vintage African American girl name Phoenix who is on her behalf way to get treatments for her grandson, who have previously been harmed by swallowing lye and her goal is to find remedies that provides him with physical pain relief. For Phoenix, this is not a onetime quest, but a repeated journey that she's to make often with love and devotion.

As the name signifies, "A Worn Route, " Phoenix's voyage is a journey that she has to replicate often, for her grandson's condition is not going to improve and the pain that he suffers is merely eased by the medication that his grandmother's pilgrimages Natchez to provide. The subject reminds us that Phoenix's quest is not a simple journey. Although she has traveled this path weekly, or maybe even daily it isn't possible for her. For each time she makes the road, even if it is the identical course she took on last night, it is never the same. For every day, she has to undergo multiple obstructions and hurdles that her place in life won't let her go around or avoid.

Although Phoenix's way is worn, we not necessarily presented with the finish of her trip, we realize that she is check out town, which is the middle of the voyage, but we not given her last vacation spot. The hunter that Phoenix's fits along her route says her that her journey is unmanageable (Orr, 1992) for her, "Why, that's too much, " (Welty, 1941) he argues, however Phoenix's durability originates from within. Her durability to help make the journey is not a physical durability that complements his but a durability that comes from the heart and soul fueled by love.

Not only do we find symbolism in the title of this poem, but also you can find symbolism found threaded throughout the words of this short account. Many critics claim that it is just a short account about an old woman looking for remedies (Orr, 1992), but the poem runs more deeply than that. The author has done a wonderful job emphasizing the natural symbolisms of Phoenix's surroundings, even down to the choice of Phoenix Jackson, a women of stamina and has persistence and fortitude to make the journey on foot, for the key character's name, Phoenix, which can be an Egyptian bird symbolizing resurrection. The Egyptian parrot is thought to come out of Arabia every 500 years to Heliopolis, where it used up itself on the altar and increased again from its ashes, young and beautiful. Even at her era and at her outward appearance of weakness, she is constantly on the preserve and is merely as beautiful and dignified in her own right, because of what she symbolizes in each of love, sacrifice and us. Even the physical explanation of Phoenix shows natural symbolism, "her pores and skin has a pattern all its own of numberless branching wrinkles as though a whole little tree stood in the middle of her forehead, " which shares with the audience longevity and toughness. Even at her era, the red of shawl shares around the enthusiasm that she still has forever and the reminder that no matter how bleak her future appears she still has hope. Her cane, made from an old broken umbrella continues to demonstrate her willpower as she uses it to scatters the clean and small pets or animals around her.

Even the hillsides that she's to climb to make her quest, "chains about my toes, " shares around the hard life that head wear she has to go to get what she desires, not just to town, but daily merely to exist, but she will not give up just keeps climbing. When she gets to the top, she looks back and provides "a complete severe look behind where she had come" (Welty, 1941). Even on the trek down, that ought to be easy, a bush attracts her dress, which is just a reminder that there is nothing every easy and there will always be things in our path to carry us back and decrease us down.

Throughout her quest, Phoenix encounters many areas of nature, a lot of that are usually symbolic of death, but its life that Phoenix is seeking. Therefore, she is not deterred by life's encounters with loss of life; she passes on by the buzzard and dances with the scarecrow. She actually is seeking life and locates a river that drinks from that represents endurance, which we've found in our main personality. Not merely is natural symbolism visible throughout the narrative, but also Christian symbolism is also very clear.

The narrative is defined during the Xmas season has led some critics to associate Phoenix's journey get back of a religious pilgrimage. Her faultless concern for grandson presents the deepest and truest meaning of love and sacrifice. Phoenix is also provided as being in direct conflict with the exterior world. In a single verse of the short tale, as she dreams she is offered a "slice of marble-cake, " (Welty, 1941) to Phoenix this is heaven, but when she reaches for it vanishes, like so many of her dreams before but she continues her quest.

She can be an icon in a in any other case white society, she is overlooked, miss grasped, and put down as easy and pitiful, when is actually a very strong and determine female, who faces obstructions that would have gone many lying in the trenches of her worn route. Her profound sense of honest is tested with the finding of the nickel, "God seeing me the complete time. I come to stealing" (Welty, 1941). The action burdens her but her need is much larger. So her quest continues.

Like Robert Frost's "The Road less Traveled, " "A Worn Avenue" is a short story that signifies a options that should be manufactured in life. Unlike the "THE STREET less Traveled", "A Worn Way" signifies a course that is manufactured again and again, but is believe it or not a difficult journey every time. Although the path is well journeyed, it is never the same and the obstructions, represented by nature are constantly changing and every present, the story is not mainly centered on the journey, however the girl herself. Phoenix, our man persona, goes on onward and upward, not quitting and not backing down. She encounters her way with elegance and dignity which is not hampered by the items in life that decrease her down or try to change her path. She has set her course and power for the trip is her love on her behalf grandson. Phoenix symbolizes the determinations and the audacity of anticipation that can be found within each of us if dig deep enough. Her quest also reminds that life will not necessary gets any easier with years, but we have to keep pressing forward. She reminds each of us that there should be something within ourselves that motivates us, whether it be love for a spouse or love for our kids, something must keep us going, keep us getting up in the morning touring our on worn paths.
