For my first e book, I've chosen to read The millstone I've a few explanations why I have chosen this e book instead of a different one. The first reason is because of the subject. The millstone is a odd and unusual title. It's not a expression you say or run into every day therefore the book immediately got my attention. Then I started to read a short information of the booklet and it said that it was about a girl who acquired pregnant after a one-night stand and determines to give labor and birth and, against all possibilities decides to raise the kid herself. It sounded interesting. It comprised elements that suits my interest and I noticed it is a popular book so i chose The millstone.

Summary
The story occurs in London in the 1960s. It's in regards to a 19 year-old girl named Rosamund Stacey. She originates from a intellectual and intensifying family. Her parents are in Africa and they gave her their flat to reside in. Rosamund is a solid, and independent woman in the eye of her friends, but she actually is actually very insecure, especially in the fields of sex. As a way of escape she has a romance with 2 men known as Joe Harm and Roger Anderson. Both Joe and Roger feel that she is sleeping with one another so neither one of them presses her to have sex.
In a pub Rosamund matches George Matthews. He is newsreader for BBC radio. She feels drawn to him plus they end up in her flat and eventually have sexual intercourse. This was Rosamund her first-time, but she didn't was required to tell George that because George was also under the impression that she has 2 buffs, Joe and Roger. She was too shy in order to George that she has fallen in love with him. She lets George vanish from her life as quickly as he entered it.
After this one-night stand Rosamund becomes pregnant. When she found out that she is pregnant, a complete new world opens on her behalf. While she chooses not to inform George and her parents in order not to annoyed them, she do notify her sister Beatrice in the hopes she will get some good moral support since she already has 3 children. Yet, in the letter Beatrice has sent back to Rosamund she expresses her disbelief and impact and urges Rosamund to either own an abortion or following the baby is born to put it for adoption, but this has just made Rosamund established to keep the baby.
Her friends take the news that Rosamund is expecting very well and they assume the daddy is either Joe or Roger. Rosamund, however, ceases witnessing Joe and Roger and focuses on her pregnancy and work. Rosamund experiences a lot of new things during her motherhood for example going to the nationwide health service for the first time. During her being pregnant she also gets help from Lydia, a genuine friend of Rosamund. Rosamund wanted to share her chiseled with Lydia in return for helping around the house and babysitting when the baby exists. Rosamund gave birth to a woman. She named her Octavia after Octavia Hill.
When Octavia is merely a couple of months old, she actually is found to have a serious condition called pulmonary artery and will need to have surgery. Luckily, the operation turns out to be successful and Rosamund is permitted to take her little girl back home. Rosamund's parents are prepared that she's a kid. The physician that controlled Octavia been an old good friend of her parents. Her parents decide never to disturb their daughters new life and stay abroad for another yr and come back for Holiday as planned.
Late at night on Christmas eve, Rosamund went to a chemist near her smooth to get some drugs for Octavia. There she achieved George and again she invites him to her even. Rosamund lies about the age of Octavia so that George wont believe that she might be his. He went to take a look at the sleeping Octavia, said that she was a lovely baby and kept again.
First personal reaction
The Millstone is a fantastic book. The storyplot is wonderful and you could really relate with the incidents that happen in the story because the storyline is very sensible. There isn't no dream in the story for example mystical creatures or dragons and magicians. It essentially about a girl who lives in London and received pregnant and tries to raise the infant herself. In true to life there are people who increase a child all by themselves. You can even sympathise with the individuals. I admire the courage of Rosamund. Beatrice urged Rosamund to place the infant for adoption or own it aborted, but she refused. She actually is determined to keep the baby and raise it herself. Friends also advised to ask Roger for financial help, but she didn't want to. Raising a baby by yourself is very hard and I've a great deal of respect for people who are for the reason that situation. Since the tale is written very practical and this George doesn't know that he's the father which she raises the child simply by herself, it has an extra impact on the story and the items Rosamund encounters.
Book assignment
I have chosen for assignment number 5 5.
The main persona of the storyplot is Rosamund Stacey. Other important character types are Joe Harm, Roger Anderson, George Matthews, Lydia Reynolds, Octavia and Beatrice Stacey.
Rosamund Stacey: She is 19 calendar year old gal who lives in London in her parents apartment. She's a sister called Beatrice and she also has a brother. She is an insecure female, specially when it's about making love. She was a virgin before night she acquired intimacy with George. This resulted in her conceiving a child. When she acquired pregnant her complete world changes. At first she didn't want child. She tried to get a miscarriage but failed. Later on she determines to keep the baby and her love for the baby grows. When the infant exists she feels a strong affection for the infant and she is happy she made the right decision.
Joe and Roger: Joe and Roger will be the 2 men Rosamund has a double relationship with. Both of them think Rosamund is sleeping with the main one another. Joe is unattractive, but attractive article writer and Roger is a rude, but rich and smart accountant. Rosamund enjoys Joe a lot more then Roger.
George Matthews: he's a newsreader for the BBC radio. He is the main one who Rosamund loses her virginity to and he's also the father of her baby, but he is unacquainted with that. He doesn't make a whole lot of looks in the storyline. Only the night at the pub which ended up in making love together with Rosamund in her apartment and the night time on Holiday eve. He hasn't called Rosamund again or tried to contact her after that night that they had sex. Despite the fact that he doesn't make a great deal of appearances he still a very important character because he's the father of the child and the story is about motherhood.
Lydia Reynolds: She actually is a novelist and a pal of Rosamund. Down the road she also becomes Rosamund's roommate. She helps Rosamund during the pregnancy and she is writing a new book about Rosamund and Octavia
Octavia: She actually is Rosamund's baby and it is the main one who changes Rosamund her life.
Beatrice Stacey: She actually is the sister of Rosamund. She actually is committed and has 3 children. When Rosamund advised Beatrice she was pregnant she got worried sick and urges Rosamund to put the baby for adoption or have it aborted. She really cares about Rosamund.
All these heroes in my judgment are realistic and you could recognize them. There is not much difference between them and people in true to life who raise a child all by themselves and friends and family who caution and help you with things.
The most sympathetic person is Lydia, because during Rosamund's motherhood Lydia was there to help her. She helped with doing groceries or help around the house. Before Lydia became Rosamund's roommate, Rosamund lived alone in her apartment and she was pregnant and she didn't have anyone to help her, but arrived Lydia and Rosamund her life became slightly easier. In the publication she even said that she was happy with Lydia.
The least sympathetic person is George, because following the night he had sex with Rosamund he never called again or tried to make any contact with her. Minimal he could do is visit her and become friends with her. He was never there for Rosamund or the baby. If he'd have called her or visit her then maybe Rosamund would have got the courage to tell him that the infant was his.
Yes Lydia also
Motivation
For my second reserve, i've chosen to read The Collector. I've chosen this booklet because of 3 things. The first reason is the name. The Collector is just just like the Millstone, a obscure and strange name so it captured my attention. Then i started to read a short information of the book and it said it is approximately a guy who kidnaps a female and holds her hostage simply for the pleasure of having her there. When reading the description I thought that the main character was sensing lonely and I could relate myself to that to a certain extent. Sometimes Personally i think lonely too. This e book was also recommended to me by a pal, Sudip. He has read the publication and said it was readable and feel the story. Also very little difficult words and the storyline is exciting so i said to myself sure you will want to.

Summary
The story is approximately a man known as Frederick Clegg. He's 22 years old and lives along with his uncle Dick and aunt Annie and niece Mabel, because his father is dead and his mother doesn't value him. He gathers butterflies that he attracts himself. It's his only interest. Clegg is enthusiastic about a girl named Miranda Grey. She would go to the Slade University of Fine arts. She actually is an art learner. He admires her from a distance, but because of his extreme lack of social skills he is unable to make any connection with her. 1 day he wins a sizable award in the basketball pools. This allows him to avoid working and purchase a house in the countryside. He seems lonely and wishes to be with Miranda. Clegg decides to include her to his 'collection'. He desires that if he stored her captive long enough she'll increase to love him.
After months of careful arrangements, he kidnaps Miranda by drugging her with Chloroform and locks her in his basement. When she wakes up she confront him with what he has done. Clegg is embarrassed and he offers her that he will let her follow per month. He also assures to take care of her with value and wont sexually molest her and this he will showering her with gift ideas and presents using one condition. She can't leave the basement.
During her captivity Miranda stored a journal. In it she creates about her prior life before she happened captive.
Clegg scares Miranda and she does not understand him at the start. Initially, she thinks that he has erotic motives for abducting her, but later as his true identity begin to show you she realise that it is incorrect. Miranda starts off to involve some pity for Clegg, because of his hopeless obsession with her. Clegg tells Miranda that his first name is Ferdinand.
Miranda tries to escape many times but failed. Clegg was always able to stop her. Miranda also tries to seduce him in order to persuade him to let her go, but this only led to him becoming mixed up and irritated. When Clegg refuses to let her go, she begins to fantasize about eradicating him. After having a failed look at, she thought that eradicating Clegg would lower her to his level. She refrained from any more tries. Before Miranda can break free again, she becomes very sick and dies.
Clegg discovered that Miranda passed away. At first, he wanted to commit suicide, but after reading her diary where she had written that she never loved him, he chooses that he's not responsible and that he's better off without her. The e book ends with his announcement that he programs to kidnap another girl.
First impression
The collector is a great book. The storyplot is exciting rather than so difficult to comprehend. It's easy to feel the story and the words aren't so difficult. The storyline and the incidents that have took place are very natural. It's appears like it could really happen in real life. In fact some people have tried to do or have done the same thing Frederick did. Kidnapping a woman, organised her hostage and do cruel things for example intimate abusing her. You can also sympathise with the character types. I feel sad for Miranda. Being exclusively and isolated from the outside world, not knowing what will happen and worries and loneliness. I also pity Frederick. It's unfortunate that Frederick is so enthusiastic about her and this he is forcing her to love him.
Book assignment
I have chosen for assignment number 9
The problems and negative things which have happened and that we can read within the storyline are loneliness, obsession, kidnapping, fear, isolation, possessing people hostage and death. Each one of these things aren't new to us. We are able to all see these things back in true to life. There have been several cases before and in today's where folks have been kidnapped and carry hostage for ransom money, erotic abuse or for whatever reason. We hear about them for example on the news and the radio. Below there are 2 news articles where there's a similar situation and problem.
Article #1 1 is approximately Jaycee Lee Dugard, a woman who was kidnapped at age 11 and organised hostage for 18 years and was sexually abused. She also provided labor and birth to 2 daughters. Article #2 2 is about Sarah Maynard, a girl who was simply kidnapped at the age of 13 and placed hostage for 4 days and nights. Her mother, brother and a family friend got killed. She was also sexually abused.
If we compare it to the collector we can easily see that in both the news articles and the collector someone was kidnapped and kept hostage. Also in both of these the person that is kidnapped is a lady. All 3 of girls were isolated from the real world. Miranda was held captive in a basement, Sarah in the house of the abductor and Jaycee in an outdoor. Most of them were frightened for what was going to occur and felt some kind of loneliness.
The reason for kidnapping however differs. In the collector Frederick was enthusiastic about Miranda and wished to make her part of his 'collection' and to make her love him. In the news headlines article about Jaycee Lee Dugard and Sarah Maynard the reason behind abduction is mysterious, but we can suppose it isn't for the same reasons like in the collector. Also the individual that happened captive in the collector passed away, but both Jaycee and Sarah lived. There was also a notable difference in age between your girls when they were kidnapped. Jaycee was 11 and Sarah was 13 when they received kidnapped and Miranda was 20. Both Jacey and Sarah were sexually abused. Jaycee however also provided labor and birth to 2 children and happened captive for 18 years while Sarah happened captive for 4 times. Miranda was never sexually abused, even though she thought that his motives for abducting her were sexually supposed. She also never got children and was held captive for 2 a few months before she died.
Even though there are a few differences for example the reason they got kidnapped and the distance of the captivity of the 3 young ladies, all 3 of these acquired kidnapped and were kept hostage nonetheless. And we can easily see most of the elements from the collector back the news headlines articles.
