Environmental Sustainability In THE TOWN Of Dubai Travel and leisure Essay

Over the recent years, has Dubai advanced to a far more ecological and eco-friendly city? This newspaper explains the existing sustainability of Dubai's development and other means. It implies that the location has a certain lack of awareness toward the more eco-friendly living and society. Evaluating the lack of the resident's initiations toward a far more eco-friendly city demonstrates the Dubai does not have any requirement to be lasting. However, the existing sustainability is being better. Many people, such as Pradeep Parmar, creator and owner of Passion Star Ltd. has attempted to introduce a more sustainable and green alternative to plastic totes in supermarkets around the location and the country. Jute bags are usually more sustainable towards the environment and he is trying to use that in to the modern culture of Dubai. Shirish Patel, an architect who has been residing in the UAE for more than fifteen years, has also tried to give more lasting options to the assignments that he spent some time working. Within an interview with him, he previously outlined the current benefits and drawbacks of Dubai's sustainability and eco-friendliness. He also suggested that some ideas for a more sustainable and eco-friendly city. In conclusion, although many sections of Dubai are not the most eco-friendly out of most, the city is trying its better to be as ecological as possible plus they can improve on these if they try to put into action some of the ideas and ideas that were introduced and outlined by Shirish Patel and Pradeep Parmar. If Dubai will try a little harder and seeks to complete their goal of total sustainability, they could just be in a position to reach another milestone once again.

Introduction:

In 2005, Dubai was graded as the best carbon footprint city on the globe, as conducted with a study by the WWF Living World 2008 survey. The UAE has been found to have the carbon footprint around 9. 5 global hectares. As a result, the UAE was rated as the 45th highest carbon footprint country. The United States is the next largest carbon footprint country while Kuwait ranks in at third. There are quite lots of factors that summarize Dubai's current sustainability. The will be the positives factors, including the implementation of economically friendly public travel systems such as buses which can decrease the amount dangerous pollution that is given off by durable cars. In an interview with Shirish Patel, this method is talked about and examined more thoroughly. There are also negative factors of sustainability in Dubai such as the emission reductions and the expenses of doing so. Being truly a new technology, sustainability is not so well known among architects who have been constructing major buildings such as the Burj Al Arab and the Burj Khalifa. In addition to the negative factors of sustainability, advancements of how to execute sustainability with low costs are discussed in detail with Shirish Patel in his interview. Many of these factors impact the sustainability of Dubai however the true question is the fact that over the recent years, has Dubai developed to a far more ecological and eco-friendly city?

1st Paragraph

In today's time, Dubai is most known because of its luxurious lifestyle, the considerable boom in development and its capability to attain milestones in this field with the Burj Khalifa. Also it may be the most attractive city in the entire Midsection East. Soon, Dubai could become the next NEW YORK. But with so many complexes and structures which may have been erected, sustainability to the environment is also a major cause for the depletion of the ozone part in certain elements of the entire world. Dubai has many building with friendly to the environment leads including the newly constructed Burj Khalifa and the Emirates Towers on the Sheikh Zayed Road. Within an interview with Shirish Patel, an architect from the UK and has been living in the UAE for more than 15 years of his life. His input upon this idea and current situation is only based on his personal experience of living and working in this country. He feels that Dubai is trying to create a more green city by utilizing such positive factors including the eco-friendly public carry systems such as buses. Also, to make life easier for many travelers in the united states where temperature is the primary climate for about eight calendar months, creating stations where people can sit down indoors and await the buses to arrive. That is positive as people do not need to to wait in heat but can relax in the cools of the Air-con system while they await their transport to reach. Dubai also tries to save energy and recycle as much as possible by building the buses from used metals and other wastage which may be useful. He also believes that Dubai is able to improve their current sustainability on buildings by employing new ways of engineering and living. For instance, many complexes could put into action the new technology of solar paneling and the capability to use fiber optic wire connections to channel the vitality gathered from the solar panels and convert these to energy to give electricity to certain areas of the building. Other implementations could be the reduced amount of the A/C system in certain areas of the building and the use of natural air consumption to cool any office during the times when heating is most unbearable. For example, the if the company was employed in a building during the summer months, then the natural air that was stored through the winter months could be slowly used in the office. Also, the utilization of lights during the daytime in colleges or general public places should be removed as enough light is emitted from sunlight and the execution of more house windows could aid this example. Many other methods of energy preservation and honest energy storage space could be integrated in this situation. Apart from these implementations, the Green Building Council of UAE has attempted to assist with this current situation. The Green Building council is the group that was developed in america to help maintain the over utilization of energy and other ways of sustainability. Over time, the Green Building Council has expanded to numerous countries and in '09 2009, they relocated to the UAE after looking at the amount of carbon footprint that the country was making. Along with the authorities of Dubai, the Green Building Council has been a major part of the execution of sustainability in the UAE for all of the major complexes and monumental sections of the city. Presently, Dubai remains at the top of the carbon footprint list, although presently activities are being taken to change the ways and ways of their growth.

2nd Paragraph

Although Dubai has used the precautionary solutions to sustainability within the city, many inhabitants aren't satisfied with the techniques of sustainability. For instance, people aren't willing to turn off the lights during the daytime as they complain they are struggling to see what they are doing. Using this method, residents are throwing away unnecessary amounts of electricity through the times when it is not needed. For example, classes in Dubai use a substantial amount of electricity during the day. This example is totally based on personal experience. Instead of using a lot electricity during the day, they ought to possibly consider saving that electricity since schools run during the daytime and there is enough sunlight during the complete day. A possible extension of house windows in the classrooms could help the problem of students being struggling to see in course. The schools should only be using the equipment and lighting when natural sun rays is not available, such as during the winter season. Even then, the lights in for the lighting should be refitted with fluorescent signals, because they are much more useful in energy saving. Another approach to conservation is possibly the implementation of clever building to new constructions that are arising and accumulate this method into current complexes around the town of Dubai. Intelligent Building is a concept that is developed recently. Getting started in the US, this concept has generated itself in many major countries like the US, UK and so many more. Basically, the concept behind this technique was to create a system that allows humans to stay in their comfort zones, along with controllability of the state-of-the-art technology. For example, a person would go into their room in a hotel and the computer would discover the occupant. Then in line with the computations of the occupant's current body heating, the air conditioner level is changed. There are many other advanced features like those which is also manually variable by the occupant. Unfortunately, the costs of the jobs and initiations are too overpriced since there's a certain lack of architects and designers that are experienced in this field of work. Since there's a lack of resources, the cost of bringing these folks to the town and paying them to implement their ideas of sustainability can be difficult. Also, in the current market conditions, many people will seek the contrary of this notion of involving these people since not only might it be expensive to bring them to metropolis and to source them with the necessary materials, but it mean that construction and labor costs will be increased since it needs more depth. In an interview with Shirish Patel, he talks about the unaccounted utilization of water containers and plastic hand bags in the united states. He says that they have to eliminate the amount of drinking water bottles around the location and/or keep them exclusive to hotels and restaurants. These water bottles are unnecessarily being chock-full in landfills around the town. One of the primary reasons that people do not recycle is basically because there is absolutely no external power that requires them to undertake it. For example, though it is not a national law, expresses such as NY and Seattle enforce fines on residents who dispose of certain recyclable items. If Dubai implements such laws towards residents of the city, Emiratis and Foreigners, then your amount of squandered recyclable items would considerably reduce. Also, the consumption of plastic bags should greatly be reduced. Implementation of paper luggage or the new concept of 'jute hand bags' should be added in the supermarkets and other bazaars. Passion Star, a corporation that has specialised with jute hand bags in Dubai has presented these principles to big supermarkets such as Carrefour, Hyperpanda and other major supermarkets in the town. There are a great many other ways to save energy in Dubai but I do believe that the city is making some form of an attempt to make itself a more environmentally friendly location.

3rd Paragraph

In 2007, Passion Star Ltd. began an initiation to bring a product that was interesting and reusable at the same time. Jute bags were, and in some areas, is a favorite style of the Indian community. Pradeep Parmar, the Managing Director of Eagerness Star Ltd. , says he had seen this tendency for quite some time of his life in India. When he realized what waste vinyl totes can do to environment, he decided to implement these bags to the market in Dubai. He had penetrated the best market available, the supermarkets. Instead of supplying the carriers himself, he had pitched the theory to major supermarket brands such as Carrefour and has had many successful deals with this new notion. Today, many people use these hand bags as they completely reusable and quite productive. Viewing this style emerge on the market, a great many other brands, such as Gulf Media, the leading publication company in the UAE, started giving free jute luggage with a membership of their magazine to promote the thought of conservation. If the UAE does continue steadily to progress in this fashion, they may be well off as a far more conventional country. Although, Dubai could do much more to bring their city and the name of the united states to a more sustainable and conventional location. Numerous opportunities have arisen to make a more eco-friendly society. Hotels in the UAE are quite sustainable in today's times but there may be more to help that. For instance, when a new occupant bank checks to their room, the in-room refrigerator should be maintained off unless the occupant should choose so. By doing this, the hotel will eliminate the utilization of valuable electricity. Also, the light bulbs in the area should be changed with fluorescent lighting to help save the energy. Another idea is to refurbish the whole hotel with the Intelligent Building concept. If current and upcoming hotels would mount this concept, then they would visit a remarkable increase of mass media attention, which could enhance up their sales. Since this idea is rather new and has been tested in the US, the hotels would be more likely to assess the pros and cons of installing this new technology. It would save a lot of energy which could then be put in place in the areas of the city. Besides hotels, Dubai could also preserve energy by reduced amount of cars in the city. Presently, Dubai has installed eleven Metro channels around the city while thirty-six are still under construction. Once all of these stations start, then the need of cars would be pointless. This would decrease the amount of petrol that is being used and the pollution that the autos are triggering toward the city. Along with vehicles, many people wish to ride bicycles in and around the city but there is not proper walkway or lanes around the city to use this. If there are lanes for cyclers around Dubai, then your amount of individuals driving a car would also significantly reduce. More than the transportation that needs to be changed, it should be the infrastructure. Properties around Dubai are one of the very most un-efficient and pro-wastage plus they should be modified. For example, buildings should be refitted with the Intelligent Building concept and/or they should be able to save energy with other methods. Various other methods is to implement recycling channels in each building. Also it should be made that the inhabitants and/or staff should be fined if they do not comply with the recycling regulation. Various other methods could be to conserve electric power in the buildings at all costs. For example, properties such as office structures use lights during the day time, which uses quite a lttle bit of energy. Many office buildings have windows all around the floor, so day light is able to provide enough for the inhabitants to work through the daytime. For office buildings with deeper places, the new technology of fibers optics can help pipe in day light to prospects certain office spots. Combined with the improvements of light in complexes, the air conditioning could be another factor. Since the air-con is another element in energy conserving, the choice of natural wind should be an alternative. During the winter season, the cool air should be accumulated and stored to be maintained for the a few months when the heat is most intolerable. Unfortunately, since the winter months are too less in this area of the world, this program could be unsuccessful. If this program is unavailable, then energy efficient ac units should be implemented. By this, it means that the A/C would run for quite a while before room is cool, and then switches off. Many of these ideas have been specified by Shirish Patel through the interview that was conducted. If Dubai is able to continue to support itself in the energy conserving world, and make an effort to implement some of the ideas that are mentioned previously, then metropolis will be known not only for the amazing structures and traveler locations, also for the environmentally sustainability that they have been trying to accomplish. Dubai could soon be well off known among the most sustainable locations of the time.

Conclusion

Dubai has been known as you of most carbon footprint towns on the planet in 2005 and since that time the town has been endeavoring to do everything it can to get rid of that title. Dubai, also called the concrete jungle of the Desert, has been on its way to generate and break milestones and information. But with all of this development and developed heading along in progress, the downturn is that they have not been paying attention at the sustainability of the properties and other major factors in the city. Some examples will be the unaccredited buildings in the town, the existing Metro transportation system, the inefficiency of the vehicles in the town and having less domestic facilities such as lanes for bicycling and walking. These only a few of the problems around Dubai. However, Dubai has been doing its part toward the city by implementing some of the major sustainability ideas in to the most known properties in the city, including the Burj Khalifa and the Emirates Towers. Shirish Patel, an architect who may have been moving into the UAE for more than fifteen years, has experienced the positives and negatives of living and working in the country and enjoying this enlargement grow as time passes. Within an interview conducted with him, he previously outlined the required options for Dubai's sustainability towards their expansions overall. He suggested that Dubai present improvements to properties and landmarks all around the city, and the efficiency of the city's transport systems. For instance, he suggested that folks should decrease the amount spent in cars and the government should ask the residents to utilize other travelling means such as the recently developed Metro system and other basic travelling systems including the bicycles and walking. He also suggested that the government create lanes for cyclists in the Dubai to roam around more openly than they do. Other basic advancements were that supermarkets should change their methods of using plastic carriers to simple newspaper hand bags and/or jute carriers. Pradeep Parmar, founder and owner of Excitement Star Ltd. , has helped add the jute tote system in the UAE in order to reduce the amount of vinyl totes that are being used in and around Dubai. Several ideas for sustainability are able to be enforced by everyone in the UAE and if indeed they could help initiate a more renewable and sustainable lifestyle in the UAE, specifically in Dubai, then the city is bound to receive increasingly more support from countries which have already implemented several ideas to their own cities. So, the question remains: Above the modern times, has Dubai progressed to a far more ecological and eco-friendly city? I believe the city hasn't become fully sustainable and eco-friendly however they have been implementing an effort to take action.
